My main instrument is the viola (at this point), which is kind of a "rarer" instrument which is always in-demand... so that could be a good thing for me.

I want to major in International Relations (and do some Music stuff on the side for fun), and I have been considering the University of St. Andrews because of its great reputation worldwide in this area (IR). I know there are about 2,934,639,479,214,387,561,083,746,580 of these chances threads out there, but your comments would be much appreciated.

American schools I am interested in are: Princeton, Columbia, NYU, Georgetown, UCLA, UC Berkeley, and Claremont McKenna

Thanks in advance!

st. andrews has too many americans for it to be a british university

Well... okay. Thanks. I think.

Anything else, anyone?

Most likely you'll get into St. Andrews and half of your list of American universities

Bumppp. .

Update:

Biology E: 760

those are nice scores...i think you're fine although i probably don't know any better

Does anyone have any more information on St. Andrews, especially their International Relations Programme?

...and Scores Update:

AP Biology:4
AP Comp:5

I got accepted to St. Andrew's for medicine and my stats are about the same as yours. You'll have no trouble getting in, but just make sure you can deal with living in a small town. Aside from playing golf and studying there's not all that much to do there, although it's a really beautiful place.

I go to St Andrews and have recently started classes in IR. You should have no problem getting in, and IR is a really popular subject, especially among Americans for some reason. Standards for the IR program are pretty high, since it is so popular, but being an American will really help, since that’s where the school gets its money. (UK and EU students either go for free or at a steep discount.) The quality of teaching is excellent, and I believe we’re the most highly-rated for student satisfaction in the UK … something like that. Also, St Andrews has a newish course in Sustainable Development that everyone here is really excited about, and you can take that with or as part of your courses in IR.

It is a small town, and for the most part you have to go out and find yourself something to do - it doesn’t necessarily come to you. We’ve seriously got a billion student societies and sports clubs though, and dances and pub crawls and things. There’s generally somebody doing something.

The best part of St Andrews is that it’s a really ancient town with little bits of history everywhere. It is in no way a large or exciting city; it’s a small town and it doesn’t try to be anything else.

Bottom line: If you get into an Ivy League college, you should probably go there. But St Andrews is a really nice second option, and the IR program is excellent.

Hope that helped!

Yeah you would probably get in!
