University of Texas at Austin internal transfer

So I am currently a freshman (technically a sophomore by credits) at UT Austin in the mechanical engineering department. I have applied for an internal transfer to the petroleum engineering department. This is something I have had my mind set on since the moment I stepped on campus my first semester. I have been taking classes banking on me getting the transfer, so in other words if I don't get the transfer I will be put back quite a bit. My question is, does anyone know how likely is it that I will get the transfer? Are there any students who were in my shoes that went through this? I managed a 3.934 GPA first semester with an A in calculus 408C and an A- in chemistry, I know those are factored heavily in decision making. I am enrolled to take physics 303K/lab, geology, chem 2 and calculus 408D and I feel confident that I can do well in these classes.

I am also a Texas resident, I know this also has to do with it. I have been to the website multiple times with the history of accepted transfers and I know the percentages aren't in anyone's favor, but I feel like with the GPA I got the first semester I should have a good shot. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!
