University of Texas at Austin

Hi all,

I haven’t posted a thread on here for a while. How hard is it to get into College of Education at UT Austin? And I’m a little low on GPA wise, I’m looking at an overall GPA of 3.2-3.4. I know my chances are not great but do I still have a chance? And also my second choice major is Asian Culture and Languages, is that a hard major to get into at UT??

Thanks so much!!

Bump!!

Well, admission depends on several factors. What are your SAT/ACT scores? Do you have good essays/rec letters/extracurriculars? Also, are you in state or out of state? I was accepted a couple months ago and I had a pretty similar unweighted gpa so I thought I wouldn’t get in, but I did have a 33 ACT and good essays/recommendation letters/resume/extracurriculars and all that stuff so that probably helped! Plus, I live in state. Also, UT’s College of Education isn’t one of their more selective/hard to get into colleges. I don’t know much about the Asian Culture and Languages major but I don’t think that’s super selective either. So, I do think you have a decent chance at admission if you can make up for the gpa but nothing is guaranteed and, in the end, a lot of it is luck and it’s unpredictable so, if I were you, I’d look at some other schools as well. Good luck!

The college of Education is much easier to get into than other colleges in UT Austin. Assuming your ACT/SAT scores are around you GPA score, and your essays and rec letters are decent, you have a decent chance of getting in because the College of Education is a lot easier to get into than other more prominent colleges.

@lotsofquests I didn’t take the official ACT/SAT so and all I have is my GPA. I know it’s a low GPA, but the most I can get it up to is a 3.46 if I make straight A’s this semester but it looks like it’ll be winding down to an overall GPA of 3.2-3.3 with 31 credit hours. Also, my essays I think were quality essays, I’ve had several people help me edit it them. I didn’t have much EC’s so I’m a bit worried. I do have 3 LOR’s from high school teachers tho. @wanderess17 what was your GPA when you got accepted do you remember?? I’m in-state btw.

When I applied, my unweighted gpa was a 3.32, if I remember correctly! However, I did take a lot of AP classes throughout high school so my weighted gpa ended up being I think like a little over a 3.8 so I’m not sure which gpa they look at.
Also, that’s good that you have good essays and good rec letters, bc those could definitely help since your app will go through individual review and they’ll look at everything, not just the numbers. For the ECs, if you have time this summer you could also try to do 1 or 2 activities to add to your resume like volunteer/get a job! Honestly, I think if you can get a decently high ACT/SAT score (I’d say at least around a 1300 SAT/ 29 ACT) once you do take it, you’ll probably have a very good chance of admission since the College of Education isn’t super selective.

Thanks, but I didn’t take the official SAT/ACT though…

oh well I mean are you planning on taking it? because i’m pretty sure that’s required as part of the application.

No it’s only required for freshman application, not for transfers.

ohh lol nvm then, you didn’t mention you were a transfer so I just assumed you were applying to be a freshman. also, just so you know, I was accepted as a freshman not a transfer so idk if admission as a transfer is easier/harder/the same

Lol sorry for not clarifying, I heard it’s easier to get in as a transfer bc they don’t consider SAT/ACT, only your GPA
