I think if they had told us in August that decisions would be released by March 1st, then I wouldn’t be so upset. Nothing like that has ever been communicated. I had to figure out the process through this board and gossip with other parents. Disappointing for what is suppose to be one of the best Universities in the country.
UT also get like 50,000 applications. Maybe that’s why it takes them a long time to make a decision. Plus I think all decisions should be made by March 1st
I’m an alum as well, @tejasgal, and I find this process very disappointing, too. My S submitted his application in early August. His HS does not rank, so it seems that automatically put him in the review category. We’ve heard nothing at all since his app was shown as complete over 5 months ago, and his admission status has been “in review” the entire time. I suppose if he had applied closer to the December 1st deadline instead of the week ApplyTexas opened, the wait wouldn’t seem so long.
@tejasgal thanks for sharing your sons stats. We are also waiting on decision for an applicant who has above average test scores for both SAT and ACT (based on UT average scores), tons of extracurriculars and 400 hours of service! We were also told if you apply by October 15th your app would be “read first” but it appears they read it first to put it in review…
I’m not complaining about the length of time it takes them to make decisions. I understand they get an enormous amount of applications. I’m complaining that they have never said anywhere, on their website, or in an email, how long it would actually take. In the mean time we get weekly emails from Purdue telling us about the Engineering program, their Coop program, financial aid, housing, their Study Abroad program, Purdue for Me, Star and Boiler Gold Rush. They really want my $40k per year.
@tejasgal hope you didn’t think I thought you were complaining because I certainly don’t. I’m in the same boat with you frustrated! Especially since we were led to believe if your app was in by Oct 15 you would have a decision sooner than now.
@MOMOF5TX No! can tell you are as frustrated as me. I was responding to the comment that UT gets 50000 applications.
Hey yall! I applied to UT for Nursing in November and my application is still in review. I’m freaking out because UT is my dream school and I just want to know if I got in. I have already by accepted in to A&M and Texas Tech.
What do yall think my odds are?
My Stats
ACT 29
Class Rank 60/358
GPA 3.75/4.0
NHS, Internship at a hospital through school, will have my Nursing Assistant license by March, other extracurriculars and service hours.
I’m severely dyslexic, but I don’t think that changes how they view my stats.
@alynicole803 your rank might hurt you. Keep your head up!!!
I made my prediction somewhere on this site I think. I will make it again. I predict the final wave of acceptances, CAP, PACE, etc will be late afternoon, early evening on Friday, February 20th. Late enough that you will not be able to reach anyone in admissions via the phone, because they will be gone for the weekend. Good luck to you all!
I hope that you hear sooner. But I still think the final, final wave will be on a Friday, and I think the 20th is your date. The weekend before is Valentine’s Day, the weekend after is too close to March 1.
I agree with @lots2do’s date prediction. Every time I hear of someone getting accepted, it’s always late afternoon on a Friday. Including my own daughter’s acceptance! They don’t want you to have the ability to contact them right after you find out your status. And since the last batch of admission decisions will (probably) include the “Dear John, You’re an amazing candidate. Thanks for waiting months for us to let you know that you’re not right for UT” letter/email, they really don’t want to be around when people start calling!
Can someone tell me if its true that if you DON’T make it into either your 1st or 2nd major choice, that UT will not consider you for general admission (UGS) even if you are a strong candidate otherwise? And is this something new this year? Thanks!
@WandaSS I would think if you are an auto-admit they have to let you enter in Undergraduate Studies if they don’t give your 1st or 2nd major choice. I don’t know that for sure, though, because UT hasn’t communicated.
@TinTintoo UT is not FAR above A&M. For example, both engineering schools are top ranked in the nation and are very close to each other.
lol when i logged on and saw 22 notifications for this post i was like, YES UT HAS RELEASED ADMISSIONS and everyone is posting about it. and then i was like ughhhh when confronted w/ reality -_-
@MOMOF5TX - my daughter has what we think are decent stats. 2130 SAT, she’ll be officially a NMF next week, GPA of 3.84, lots of ECs, including soccer team captain, piano competitions, service through church and community, mission trips, National Homeschool Honor Society, plays keys weekly in a church band, 2nd degree black belt and has been teaching karate for several years. The 2 things against us are that she is homeschooled and doesn’t have any APs. First kid mistake with the APs. We had no idea they would be so important. Next one up the pipeline (freshman) will be taking some AP tests!
@4blessings yeah we are learning in this process too! My son’s stats are 2150 SAT / 33 ACT / National Merit Commended / 3,92 GPA. Goes to a small college prep school that is extremely competitive and doesn’t rank. Over 400 hours community service 3 years in 2 varsity sports, select sports, AP Scholar, NHS, NEHS, 9 APS and 9 honor classes. Internship plus summer job past two years and job thru school year. It’s a wonder these kids can keep up with their grades as busy as they are!
My D is not an auto-admit, goes to a small private school that doesn’t rank. I’m worried that if she doesn’t make it into her first or second major choice, then that’s it, doesn’t even get offered undergraduate studies. Is that true?
@wandaSs I’ve heard different opinions on this. What’s your daughter’s stats?
When my D was submitting her app, we called the admissions office to ask about the policy on first and second choice majors and consideration for UGS. We were told that they used to consider all applicants for UGS as a third option if they weren’t accepted into their first or second choice. Now UGS is offered as a third choice for only the auto admits. In our case, we are OOS so my D has only the first or second choices available to her. One of her choices is undeclared in UGS as we were unsure of the accessibility of transferring from one school to another. In hindsight, maybe she should have chosen undeclared in COLA since her first choice is in COLA. It’s all a gamble, but I hope in this case she hits the jackpot and has an acceptance in hand soon.
