University of Texas--Austin Admissions

@WandaSS‌ I don’t believe UGS is offered to non-auto. For non-auto I think what they do is if you don’t get in first or second choice…they give you a list of majors that have room. But they may be less impacted majors for example, scandinavian studies or woodworking (if that’s even a major) :stuck_out_tongue:

Based on the UT19 hashtag on twitter, it appears that they admitted a bunch of nursing applicants today. I applied to education (applied learning and generalist certification) in mid october and I have yet to hear anything. If you have heard of anyone getting into the college of education or that specific major, please let me know. Waiting for UT is making me lose my mind.

My son was auto-admitted in September, but still hasn’t gotten news on his major. Waiting to find out if he got into Environmental Science geography track in the college of liberal arts. #1 class rank and 2160 SAT. The wait is hard.

I would just like to put it out there that students who want to attend a University of California system school have to wait until usually the end of March to find out if they have been accepted/rejected/waitlisted.

Hope they come out soon, this wait is killer

@magathar‌ is absolutely right, and also most of the UC’s are more competitive than UT.

does anyone know if there is going to be an admissions decision release today?

Hi, can someone help me? I want to know what the average stats are for out of state students that want to do petroleum or chemical engineering in Cockrell? Please be as specific as possible. Thank You

Hi! Same here, I’ve been lurking around for a petro major too. Do u know the avg stats for an OOS petro engineer?

Can someone clear up why if you applied to McCombs you got an answer as to whether you were accepted/deferred by Dec? I’m so confused as to why this process is taking so long! I know people on this thread are waiting even longer than my S has. My S applied to Cockrell , BTW.

@scout07‌ Not all McCombs applicants have heard. My applicant has above average scores, lots of ECs and 400 hours of community service and is still in review. Applied by October 15th…

@MOMOF5TX Thats awful! We are OOS and I know quite a few OOS kids who applied by the Oct. 15th deadline to McCombs and heard in December. They should really update people as to when they can expect a response. My S called our local rep and that person was not friendly and sounded like they couldn’t be bothered.

@scout07, referring to your earlier post regarding McCombs acceptance/deferral notification in December, people may be referring to the BHP (Business Honors Program) of McCombs and not just general acceptance into McCombs. BHP applicants that applied by 10/15 were notified of their status (acceptance, denial, deferral) into BHP by early December. I wonder if applicants that applied to BHP had their applications reviewed more quickly as they would clearly have to be accepted into McCombs before being considered for Honors in the same college.

@txstateomind‌ you are probably right, I do know someone who applied to BHP and was deferred but was accepted into regular McCombs and later on notified of their acceptance into BHP. Unfortunately, someone told me if you applied by Oct. 15th or November 1st and have not yet received a response, the likelihood of getting in is pretty low. My S is in that category. He’s been accepted to some pretty prestigious engineering programs, but does love UT. I guess all we can do is wait and hope for the best! Good luck to everyone!

I’m hoping that’s not the case because our school normally gets a lot of people in at UT and only :a handful have been notified and they weren’t McCombs or Cockrell.

@scout07 what are your sons stats?

The College of Natural Sciences web page says that decisions will be released between late fall and March 1. I expect it’s the same for most of UT. There have been many comments on this site to the effect that most decisions are released in late Feb. Look, I’m as anxious to know as anyone else, but we have to assume that most of us will not hear anything until late Feb. it’s not unreasonable IMHO, it’s just their schedule. Ultimately, I’m fine with it as long as I get the right answer in the end.

I applied to undecided college of liberal arts and my second choice was undergraduate studies lmao so at the end of the day I just want to get in

@MOMOF5TX‌ my son has a 3.85 and 32 ACT. APs in all math and science, the rest are honors. Lots of ECs including leadership and an internship with an engineering firm. But we are OOS so you never know. He attends a very small private school - only 54 kids in his graduating class. In the 50 years the school has been in existence only 3 kids have applied to UT and not one has been accepted, but their stats were lower than my sons.

@scout07 good luck to your son! It’s always worth a try. Mine has a 2100 SAT / 1440 CR+M / 33 ACT. Two varsity sports, one external competitive sport, over 400 hours of service, two summer jobs, 1 school year job, National Merit Commended, AP scholar, and an internship as well. Also goes to a small private school that doesn’t rank. 9 APs and all other honors.
