University of Texas Austin Transfer

Hey guys, I'm hoping to transfer to UT Austin next spring since I missed the deadline for Fall 2011. I wanted to run down some numbers and see where I possibly stand and whether or not I have a good chance of making it into UT. I'm currently a freshman at University of Southern California with a Business major. I now have a 3.4 GPA and if everything goes right, I will be able to raise it to a 3.6. By the end of this semester, I will have completed 32 credits. Since I'm part of Marshall School of Business, I would love to get into McCombs, but if that's out of the question, I'm willing to apply to the Liberal Arts program. I would really like to hear what you guys have to say. Thanks

Isn’t the deadline for Fall transfer March 1?

Yes, sorry you are right, the deadline is for March 1st. What do you think of my chances for transfer?

Man, you would have a decent shot at everything else at UT …except McCombs. Because Texans are all crazy about McCombs and McCombs gives preference to Texans as well. Being OOS in an application to a Public Univ sux :(

Don’t they require SAT’s?

I dont think they required SATs or ACTs since I’m already in a university. What they look at is current GPA, essays, and any teacher recommendation you can get your hands on. Like I said, I have a 3.4 and I think I’m going to apply to liberal arts instead. Also, I don’t know if this makes any difference but I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and went to a Texas high school.

Then you just came to CA for education and still hold Texas residency, right? Then, in my opinion, you will have great chances with the College of Liberal Arts. McCombs is just unpredictable.

Yeah, I’m definitely a Texas resident but foolishly thought I’d be better in CA. Don’t get me wrong, CA is great and so is USC, but I’m starting to realize it might not be the place for me. Do you guys have any suggestions regarding the essays and how I should approach them. When I was a senior in high school, the essays were pretty restrictive, but transfer essays seem pretty open ended. Do you guys have any suggestions?
