Hi, I am a junior in high school that really wants to attend the university of Texas. My entire family has gone there and I really want to continue that tradition. However, I am not in the top 10 percent (or seven percent) for automatic admission. I go to an extremely competitive school in boerne Texas. I have all a’s and a weighted gpa of 100.1. My class rank is around the top 15 percent. I got a 29 on the act twice and am involved in service projects and NHS as well as ffa. Please chance me! Thanks!
I also played football for two years before I tore my labrum and wasn’t cleared to play again. I am also in mu alpha theta math club.
You might get capped because UT is really stingy with people outside the top 7% and if you aren’t in the top 7% then you have to have pretty stellar test scores. Your gpa is pretty good and your ec’s are alright, but there’s a good chance that you’ll get capped. Which isn’t a bad thing btw, you can just go to dallas or arlington or something for a year (w decent merit) then transfer to austin later.
A very important question- what is your intended major?
Some majors are much more difficult (Cockrell Engineering/ McCombs Business/ Computer Science) to get into than others.
Continue working hard in your classes. Maybe your class rank will improve (unfortunately they don’t seem to care your school is competitive) Make sure you spend time on your essays & show UT that you would be an asset to the school.
Good Luck!
Thank y’all very much for the advice!
