I need help deciding between the two, what are some pros and cons?

It depends on your major. They’re both good, but they both have specialties in different areas.

Are you in state for either?

Yes I am in state for Texas

Pro texas, Con Uva $$$$$

If $$ is not a factor, I would definitely go with UVA if you’ve been accepted there . It is very hard to get into from out of state. Texas is sooooo big, UVA much friendlier place, personally think UT is overrated. (sorry all you longhorn fanatics)

Personally I think UVa is overrated. Good students. Average faculty. Weak sciences and engineering.

UT is generally better in most fields academically. It carries more of a name. It is in a better climate. It is in a better city, seeing as Austin is consistently ranked as one of the best quality of life cities in the south. UT will cost about… oh i don’t know 100 thousand dollars less… You can do A LOT with 100,000 dollars. Tell your parents to buy you a nice ferrarri instead lol
UT Pros: academics, atmosphere, MONEY, climate
UT Cons: size of school

UT has the stronger faculty and more highly ranked academic departments, but UVA is generally considered more prestigious since it is smaller and more selective, and is allowed to accept more outside its state. (UT is constrained by law to a minimum of 90% instate residents for undergrad.)

weather and girls…ut > uva

I may be dead wrong, but based on my perceptions of one (UT) and experiences with the other (UVA), I would think there is quite a difference in the two schools from cultural or student body perspective. If you are a Texas resident, it may help you to do a little bit of research about the school you are not as familiar with to get an idea of what its culture and atmosphere is like. It may not be the same as talking to students there or going for a visit, but read through the forums here on CC in the UVA section under schools, go online and read their campus paper The Cavalier Daily, things like that. I can’t see spending the extra money myself if I had such a great option in Texas. Good luck to you regardless!

Wavylays94, I’m pretty sure the University of Texas’ reputation isn’t that much better (if any better) than the University of Virginia’s. I could go for a hundred-grand Ferrari. That’s a nice deal you’re getting there.
