I was accepted to the University of Tulsa with major scholarship money - practically a full ride. If I attend, I'd be a double major in English and Musical Theater. So far, the school sounds great. It's not my dream, but it's lovely, not to mention cheap. Very accommodating and welcoming with a great study abroad program. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the musical theater program at the University of Tulsa? I'd love some insight.

WOW! Congratulations!

We were supposed to audition there Sunday but D woke up with a fever of 103 and we felt she would probably do poorly, possibly collapse on stage, and give everyone else whatever she’s got so we rescheduled for February. I hope they aren’t out of those generous scholarships by the time we get there!

It’s not her number one pick, (she probably won’t get into her number one pick) but that is mostly because we don’t know all that much about it yet except that it is a good school. Her ballet teacher, whom we adore and who’s opinion we highly regard, is an alumni and she absolutely loved it. Apparently a strong dance program.

Lots of people think Tulsa is a great place to live.

Incidentally. It is the only school on d’s list that has a higher ratio of boys than girls. wink It has a very good engineering school there. I told daughter it’d be a good place to find someone with a steady paycheck. hahahaha. Just kidding. She rolled her eyes at me and informed me she is not after a MRS degree.

But, if she has any time or inclination to date (not that I want her to EVER date, lol - I just want her to one day magically produce the perfect husband and then grandbabies, but not until I’m ready for it haha) it might be a little easier to actually find a real live breathing boy. There’s a dearth of guys on college campuses these days, is what they keep telling us.

Anyway congrats again. That is a very very good thing!

Oh no! I hope your D recovers soon. But it’s great to know that other people are considering Tulsa as well and that it has a strong dance program. Like you, I don’t know very much about it. Also, GREAT to know there are boys there. Great. lol :)

snapdragonfly - regarding your comment: “she probably won’t get into her number one pick”. You never know. My D almost didn’t audition for her number one because in her words, “So few make it into that program, is it even worth it?” My response: “Someone has to make it in - it may as well be you.” She’s now a sophomore at her number one. Stay positive and dream large.

Thanks for the encouragement, xatty. It’s true, you never know. We are trying to keep from having our hearts set on any of the “lottery” schools and have a mind set of being ready to succeed at whatever school she ends up with, just in case. :-)

Tulsa (and OK in general) has a surprising amount of support for the performing arts. Who knew? They do though. Amarillo is another city that if you didn’t happen to know otherwise, you would assume it was another dusty ol cow town out here in bubba land (which is how a lot of towns ARE) but it too has exceptional local support for the arts, including a really nice symphony and a ballet and an amazing recently built performing arts center.

Of course it’s not NYC or San Francisco but there are actually some nice little hot spots of culture in places other than the coasts and Chicago, which is good news for all of us who can’t live on a coast or in Chicago. :-)
