Does anyone know anything about these universities? I stumbled upon them last week, and they really has me intrigued. I've visited Victoria before and I loved the island, but I really wasn't looking for the university at that time, and Simon Fraser looks intriguing in that it's located right near Vancouver!

Anyhow, U of V seems to be a VERY affordable option - unless I'm incorrect, the total comprehensive cost for room/board, tuition, and fees for American students is around $19,000! Simon Fraser also looks to be a steal at $20,155/year.

Can anyone tell me more about these universities?

UVic, all students are guaranteed an co-op program during their university years. And normally SFU has a guaranteed admission with 80% GPA but I don't know how it works to non-Canadians. They ARE uncompetitive so you'll have no problem getting in there. UBC might be a good option for you if you're looking into British Columbian Universities.

I looked into UBC, and it's a bit too expensive for me ($33,000/year and they don't seem to offer much financial aid to international students), whereas UVIC is very affordable. Also, BC is huge compared to them.

So I take it that UVIC and SFU don't have very much recognition/academic prestige in Canada? I've seen they've both been rated among the top universities in the Canada.

Can anyone tell me what it's like going to these schools/any other related info other than academics?

Keep in mind that there are few private universities and LACs in Canada. Every school is a state school with high acceptance rates and most students are primarily from instate (or rather, "in-province").

So yeah, UVic and SFU have some degree of prestige in Canada, but like all universities in Canada including the "top 3" (U of T, UBC, and McGill), there is a mix of intellectual geniuses and drunk frat people who think more about parties than homework.
