British Columbia Universities

Hi all,

I recently joined this site and I was wondering your output on the universities of BC (UBC,SFU,UVIC). I know they aren't not even close to the ivies but I know UBC can compete with the the universities not in the top 20 (rated number 30 in North America).

you'll find UBC will give you the academic rigour of an Ivy college. U vic and simon fraser less so, but simon fraser is just as academic as any top U.S liberal arts school.

UBC is one of the top four universities in Canada (U of T, Queens and McGill being the other three). They have a good business school and science school. I was really impresesd by their campus, their dorms for frosh are nothing special, but hey, it's right on the ocean.

Uvic and SFU are much smaller than UBC, and offer more personalised classes and are more similar to a LAC in the US. I know someone studying piano performance at UVic who absolutely loves it.

All three of them offer very challenging classes, and are a lot easier to get into than the Ivy leagues, largely because canadian schools don't really give a crap about your ECs. They want your grades, and your test scores.

I got into Uvic and UBC with a 1320 SAT, 31 ACT, and a 3.99 GPA, if that helps :) UBC says that they want over a 1300 SAT or a 28 SAT, Uvic and Simon Fraiser are less strict.

Bonne Chance!

How are the facilities and resources at UBC?

They are amazing. I'm a senior in high school in Vancouver and if I got admitted to all three, I would choose UBC even though the criminology program in SFU is #1 in Canada and one of the best in North America.

The campus is very pretty and as a large and up and coming research institution, resources are excellent.

However I don't know too much beyond what I looked into last year.
