Thanks @Darthdad It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers and think less of a great score. I just hope we all end up somewhere we like!
You go girl @FORKTHlS , One of my friends JBONE always complains about his ACT 34 and his famous vine account. I always see him on this forum so hopefully he doesn’t confront me in Computer Science next period or beat me up.
Read that they accept 1/3 out of state 2/3 in state.
LOL I wish! 2/3!!! No way. Seems like 1/3 in state 1/5 OOS
Enrollment is two thirds IS and one third OOS.
IS admit rate is 45%. OOS admit rate is 24%.
IS yield is 61%. OOS yield is 24%.
They mean that out of the overall ~30% (i think) admissions rate, 1/3 of the admitted students are OOS and 2/3 are IS. This is true
@camillepowers Due to the fact that the enrollment goal is 1/3 OOS, 2/3 IS, and the yield rate for OOS is so much lower they actually admit more OOS students than IS students.
For example last EA cycle:
Total offers: 5192
57% of those were to OOS Students (2955)
While 43% were to IS students (2237)
Based on expected yield they would (from EA) have probably enrolled around:
1365 IS, 709 OOS which is 2/3 IS, 1/3 OOS
That last sentence is complete conjecture and logic. Also, it only includes EA, but I hope that helps make sense.
Also here is the blog post where I found these numbers: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2016/01/unofficial-early-action-uva20-statistics.html
@crocadile1246 thanks for the info. I must’ve misunderstood my admissions counselor but your explanation makes a lot more sense
What time do they usually post decisions
@collegegirl33 Dean J would have posted an announcement earlier today (around 1:45 P.M.) if decisions were coming today. But usually around 5:30… sometime around that… My bet is on Friday!
I have a feeling for tomorrow… but I’ve said that about every day so we’ll see
Now I’m officially anxious. Did not realize decisions would come so soon. I was thinking middle of Feb. Good luck all.
Well Darthdad my D must have a REALLY low score wtih a 30! You are so right - I asked if she wanted to retake her ACTs to increase her chances at the RD schools she applied to, and she looked at me and said “Mom, I’m done!” She will do well no matter where she goes and some of us parents, myself included, are too involved!
1/31 most likely
Agreed! Our D was also DONE after her last SAT. She got one of the highest scores in her school, but may not be enough for UVA. I really hope our D gets into UVA because it’s her top choice. Could she be just as fabulous somewhere else? Absolutely. My over-involved role while she waits for decisions is to keep reminding her of that.
I only just joined this blog and having gone back and read a few past pages you guys have got me anxious. Lol! I wish each and every one of you tremendous luck and hope you all get the desires of your heart, but trying to derive meaning from every snippet of information and past practice isn’t going to do anything but bring your nerves to a fever pitch. It won’t be long and we will all know. A few times the horns came out and people got irritable. Let’s just encourage each other, have courage and accept what comes. You are all awesome and driven and will be a plus to whatever school you end up at.
That being said " Please U of V. Please, please, please choose me. Lololol! Come on guys and gals let’s have fun with this. This only happens once in a lifetime, the process of getting in college. Let’s make it positive and fun.
When does UVA start posting decisions? Has anyone heard yet?
Even if my D gets in we probably couldn’t afford to send her as OOS and I doubt they throw much merit aid around - certainly not to those who squeak in!
Does UVa throw any merit aid around? I thought (apart from Robertson) there really isn’t much of anything offered for merit?
