University of Washington or University of Connecticut Honors?

I’ve been accepted to both and I’m having a really hard time deciding which to attend. I received a scholarship from UConn so pricing is about the same. I want to major in either Biochemistry or BioE, go on to grad school, and hopefully work with genetics in the future. I’m most concerned about getting in research/lab experience and UConn’s Honor’s program seems to offer a lot more assistance with that than UW. However, UW has a ten times bigger endowment and looks like a more prestigious school, especially in the biochemistry/BioE field (if I get into their competitive majors, of course). I would really appreciate any opinions from people who’ve gone down this path and have attended these universities. Thank you in advance!

I don’t think it matters - you can get research experience and get into graduate school from either of these universities. I think you should choose on the basis of where you really want to go and where you think you’ll have a good academic and personal life.

I don’t know about UConn’s honors program specifically, but honors programs at large universities do sometimes offer really appealing opportunities like lecture series, closer relationships with professors, small seminars, special funding for summer research and internships, etc. Does UConn offer these things? If so, then that might be a great choice to make because you’re getting more bang for your buck, as it were.

Don’t worry about UConn’s endowment - it’s plenty big enough to do what you need there. And prestige doesn’t matter so much; both UConn and UW are known to be good schools.
