hello guys! i am second year student at bellevue college and im planning on transferring to uw seattle. currently, my gpa is 3.64 and i was wondering if extra curricular (jobs, internships, clubs, etc.) is an important part of acceptance process. i am not planning on joining any clubs or school stuff, but i am going to force myself to if ec is important lol.
Depends on the major. I had an open major, a 3.76 gpa and no ec besides work and got in. In state, GPA, and prepared for your major is what they ask for. I’d look at your major, and try to fill your schedule with as many of those classes as you can.
I studied in Highline College and I have an Associate in Biology degree. My college GPA is 3.96. I got 4.0 for all of Biology prerequisites for the Biology program at UW. We are on the same boat. My academics is strong but I never had any ECs and I never had a job in my entire life. I graduated from community college last Spring 2017 and I plan to apply in Fall 2018 because my parents can’t afford the tuition and living expenses if I transfer in Winter 2018. I do not know what to write in my personal statement because my life is pretty boring (like going to school and going back home everyday). I am hesitant to apply for scholarships because they require ec, volunteer work, or leadership skills. I am doubtful to ask for recommendation letters from my professors because I was not that engaging; I am merely a 4.0 student. So yes, I recommend to do some ec because it will strengthen your stats when you apply.
Your grades and your preparation for your major are the most important factors. But, they do want students who will do more than just go to class when possible. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or prestigious or time-consuming, but try to do a little something here and there.
I always want to do some little things here and there but I am such an introvert. I don’t want to be like this in long term. However, the hard part is how do I even begin.
