Everyone says it's easy to get in, even for out of state, and it's not known in the East Coast. Why is this? Is it underrated or is it just a plain bad school?

UW Seattle or WU, StLouis?

WUSTL = way overrated
UW = slightly underrated

There is only one University of Washington, it's a public school and it's in the Pacific Northwest. Washington University is a private university situated in Missouri.

well...pretty much every person from my school that applied to UW got in...so i dunno...in sciences UW i would say UW is underratted...but in other things...over? i think UW has a good name because of its Med School...so yea...in still going to Boston U over UW, even though UW gave me more money...o well...

i can't be sure, but i am not a brilliant student and earlier this year they sent me a lot of brochures and stuff asking me to apply and all, I got rejected from 9 out of 12 schools i applied to so i am not a genious. but no good school i know of sent me anything like that, so i am not sure if it is really underrated.

UW is very good in the sciences and fairly good in the social sciences.
I believe that it is already a top 50 school.

Hmm. It's a top 50 school for sure but none of the students at my school know where it is, and they seem to look down at me. Anyways, of those who know about U. Washington, the students say it's an overrated school.... did I make a mistake enrolling there? I want to go to a top graduate school and I feel like even if I do fairly well (3.5+), I won't be able to go to a top graduate school. I'm majoring in either computer science or business.

UWashington is a great school. It is definitely underrated. I think it was between 40-50 on the U.S. news ranking. It's a great school, with a decent campus. I think it's good for comp sci and business, but out of curiosity..did you apply to UIUC (University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign)?

I think Washington State University is one of the more underrated universities.

Well actually I got into U Washington out of state with a 2.8 GPA so there's know why I would have considered applying to UIUC. Washington State is underrated? And why is the campus "decent"? I hear its gorgeous...

University of Washington is definitely underrated, I know a guy who turned down a Stanford track scholarship to go to UW instead, said he loved it there.

UW is ranked 45. Its ranked higher than BU, Syracuse, George Washington and others.

Its a really good school, dont worry about getting flack about it.

Yeah UW is a really good school.

It's ranking is not underrated but it's reputation is. They have a pretty good business school too, I believe, and Seattle is sweet.

I'd say UT and UW are pretty underrated.

Is UT > UW?

annn :) hook 'em!

Even though UW is ranked higher up.. I'd say so! IMO UT is better than UW by far :)

No way!! What makes UT better?

The fact that if you're not texas top 10%, it's very hard to get in- esp for OOS.
UT business, engineering, and journalism among the few are one of the top schools for that field.
Plan II honors & BHP for UT is like applying to a [lower] Ivy.. it's VERY hard to get in!

Then again i'm biased.. my brother goes to UT.

That's not true. The in-state top 10% only make up less than half of the total student population. In fact, only 66% of UT's incoming freshmen were in the top 10% in high school.

UT is certainly not better than UW "by far". The two schools are peers. While UT is slightly better in business and engineering. UW is one of the top institutions in the health disciplines (#7 in medicine; #1 in nursing; #4 in public health and clinical psychology, etc). Both schools are about the same in sciences, social sciences and humanities.
