Hi all! I was recently accepted off of the UCLA waitlist and am very conflicted as to whether I should go to UCLA, or UW. At this point I’ve committed to UW and am very attached to it, but am looking for any info to help make the decision. At UCLA I’m Pre-Human Biology and Society, and at UW I’m Pre-Sciences and hoping for Biology. I’m an OOS student for both schools, so price is relatively high either way. I’d appreciate any input!
I don’t think there are meaningful enough differences in quality between these two schools in terms of the life sciences. They are both world-class when it comes to scientific research. I attended UW for grad school and it is a fabulous place. But also big and impersonal if you are an undergrad. But I suspect UCLA is not that different.
If cost is similar then it largely comes down to which campus and city you feel more comfortable in. Do you see yourself more as a Husky or Bruin? As a Seattlite or Angeleno?
Only you can answer that question. But you can’t go wrong either way.
If you feel attached to UW, then go there. Otherwise, you’re taking a risk that you won’t like UCLA, although I have to admit that I rarely hear of people who attended UCLA and hated it.
are you an international? If not, what is your instate option? Med school is expensive, so paying OOS fees is not a good plan unless your family is wealthy.
Different weather & very different cities. Personal choice based on individual preferences since cost is not an issue.
