University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business

What is the acceptance rate of the UW-Madison school of business undergraduate? Is it true, I see in the website the pre-business acceptance rate is in the 70%? Does GPA 3.6 and SAT 1900-2000 with lots of ECs and decent essay enough to be admitted to the undergraduate program (pre-business I reckon)?

Anyone who gets into UW-Madison can choose the ‘pre-business’ classification (100% acceptance). It matters not one bit what your GPA and SAT scores are

Then later you apply to the business school, due in late March of freshman year (the semester by in which you will have completed the 4 required pre-business courses). This is when college GPA, essays, involvement, and demonstrated interest in majoring in business are assessed during the admission process. You find out in summer if admitted.

There is also the direct admit option which is highly selective. In the past, students had at least a 31 ACT.

Thanks @Madison85 ,by the way is it difficult to be admitted at the first place as freshman? Are we admitted to general studies first or directly into the pre-business program that we have chosen before?

If you choose ‘Pre-Business’ on your application and are admitted to UW-Madison, then you will 100% for sure be classified as ‘Pre-Business’ which is in the College of Letters & Science.

You will also be invited to apply for the direct admit program.

All students are admitted to the university as a whole, regardless of intended major. As above, indicate your preference for Business. One of two things can happen- you are one of the very few with a direct admit as a freshman or you are prebusiness in intention and apply for admission to the Business school as above.

The default college/school placement for those who are undecided or want one without freshman admissions is Letters and Sciences. There is no such thing as being admitted to “general studies”. The great thing about UW admissions is that you can change your mind once you are there- your admission is not tied to any intended major.

The SOB direct admit program has ramped up to 120/yr. I’m a little more dubious about the impacts of the overall expansion.
