University Requirement - US History

My daughter took US History as a junior and earned a B-. Does UCLA disregard + or - or will she be required to take another course to satisfy the requirement?

Completing a year's course in American history or American government, or a one-year combination of both, in high school with an average grade of B or better

A B- fufills the retirement, she should be taking some sort of American government, as a rising senior.

why? she is taking another history elective, but if there’s an additional gov requirement, I can’t find it…

Are you talking about the A-G requirement for admission or the University American History and Institutions requirement for a bachelor’s degree?

She’s already been admitted as an early admit for class of 2016 - so I am talking about the American History and Institutions requirement for a bachelor’s degree which states

Completing a year’s course in American history or American government, or a one-year combination of both, in high school with an average grade of B or better

will her B- be acceptable?

If the high school uses +/- grades on the transcript (most don’t), then I believe that a B- is not sufficient. But they need to average a “B” over the two semesters. So if she got at least a B+ in the other semester, then it will average out.

To be safe, I would just email the school. Out of curiosity, how did she get accepted through early admit? I thought UCLA didn’t do early admissions…

jafar, she’s an athletic recruit who got an early admit for Fall 2013. We’ll check in with the coach and academics as well, just trying to get a head start on what we need to know.

Amazing! Congrats! You must be very proud. What sport?

Rowing. And yes! We are very proud and excited! Thanks!

She can check if she uses her DPR.
Assuming that she has already submitted the transcript, all she has to do is…

  1. Go on URSA.
  2. Under Academic, press Degree Progress Report.
  3. Using the Find function on your web browser, search for American.
It should say whether or not it’s been satisfied.
