Great news for Electrical engineering students. UNM is lowering the total credit hours to graduate. Under the old requirement you needed 132 hours to graduate and now it will lowered to 120 hours.

They are combining Math 316 Differential Equations (3hrs) and Math 314 Linear Algebra(3 hrs) into ECE 300 Advanced Engineering Mathematics (4hrs).

The old requirement was you had to take Chemistry 121(3hrs) and Chemistry Lab 123(1hr) but now it only requires a basic science or Math 300 level or higher. 3hrs.

The old requirement was 9 credits hours of technical electives but now it will only require 3 credit hours.

I know that UNM is trying to improve their year graduation rates so this might be the reason why they are doing this. The other UNM departments might be adjusting their programs also but I am not sure.

My son got this information a few weeks before the end of the semester and the website still has not been updated with this information but it will be effective for Fall 2014.

There is a rumor that one of the electrical engineering professors is retiring, I won’t post his name but it will good for everyone.
