Our schools are closed all next week. I suggested to my daughter that she stop by the GC today to ask if they’ve gotten anything. Wouldn’t bug them–it’s a small school and they seem so happy to notify awardees as well as announce to the whole school–but there’s the practical matter of trying to get these into the college reports that are due Sunday. I really do think NM could have done better on this. It’s a crazy system, dribbling them out.
Congrats to @GoAskDad and all the others! We are hitting the home stretch of Mardi Gras here in NOLA this weekend thru Tuesday. We’ll throw in a little extra partying in your honor!
I’m so happy for your family-congratulations What an awesome way to find out! Now, would you mind sending all of your leftover Girl Scout cookies to the remainder of us who are still waiting???
Love hearing about the great news coming in, and even more, I love hearing about a place where the schools close for Mardi Gras. You folks know how to live!
SO this is funny. Still haven’t heard from our school on notification (our school is soooo slow on this stuff), but, last night, my son got three different calls from National Merit scholarship schools. All the callers started the conversation with “Congratulations on being named a National Merit Finalist”. Anyone else get those calls??
@ZBD5421 No calls for us. We weren’t worried until now. No notification from school, no letter in the mail and now, no calls.
Don’t worry, if there was no NMF standing you probs would already have gotten a rejection letter.
@GoAskDad I know that this is such a relief for you and an honor for your DS! This whole process has been way too stressful. My DH and DD are visiting Creighton today and I am, unfortunately, stuck at home with the flu!!! Time to celebrate @GoAskDad—and everyone else who has received the good news! Thinking positive thoughts for those who are still waiting on those carrier pigeons.
SATX53, we haven’t heard either, but I’m pretty sure it’s just because the school just hasn’t gotten around to letting the kids know. Fear not!
Letter in the mail from NMSC in Texas! Texting son asking if I can open it! Tiny, thin, feels like two sheets of paper! Is this good news?
@suzy100 I think my D was at ND for the Leadership Seminar with your S/D? Any decisions on college yet?
Congratulations to @GoAskDad and all the others with happy news. I’ve been following this thread and hoping it would all work out for you. Now that the wait is over @GoAskDad, I want to know when you are starting your book? Your posts are hilarious and I’ve read them to my DD a few times as therapy for the stressful college process. Really, you should consider it. And if you do, first dibs on an autographed copy!
Does anyone have any knowledge of the U of OK? Engineering or business? I hear it is a great college town, but I have never been to OK, and don’t know what to expect.
Haven’t caught up since page 40-something, but happy to report that student letter confirming 7Daughter1’s NMF status arrived in NJ today. Congrats to all the kids who got good news this week — and to their long-suffering parents!
@CrazyMom23, the letter my daughter got was a single sheet of paper, and it was the good news.
@HSDropoutUCBGrad, we are also in VA, and I finally broke down and called th GC today. She has not seen or heard anything yet. Would you mind divulging what school district you are in?
I’ve been lurking here all week, thank you for the info and company during the week. The principal finally called TODAY, and DS is a finalist! But principal said: we’ve had the letter since Monday. Argh! (I really don’t understand why the parents don’t get notified before the schools, hello, who has the bigger stake in this? but whatever). We’re in NE Florida, so FYI and best of luck to everyone.
Congratulations to all who have received tidings of joy and I hope I get my personal letter soon!
So, I’ve been lurking in the shadows, trying to figure out when D might hear something. Today the P of her school responded to an email I sent last night saying he had got the notifications today and sent them to GC; that they would probably notify next week. D had an early release day today, got home and told us one of her teachers had shared an email sent by school administration that notified the teachers of the NMF. D was one of them, so now at least that piece of the waiting is over. We are in Wake County, North Carolina.
Now D has to decide between UK, UNC-CH, and USC (South Carolina, not Southern Cali).
