"Unofficial" Interview !!!

Hey humans,

I’ve got an “unofficial” interview with an alum coming up soon. Wondering if any of you have had one? Any advice on what to say/not to say that might be special/unusual in the case of this interview? I’ve done a college interview before, and it went very well however it was “official”.

Thankssss for your time, kind internet, strangers!!!

I have one coming up too! Which school did you apply to?

I had one a few years ago. Very casual for me at least (we met at a restaurant and just talked for a few hours). I would definitely recommend bringing a copy of your resume. It shows them you are either qualified or not which is something they consider.

@anxiouswreck I applied to Engineering

@baseballbro111

HOURS?!? I thought this was going to be more of a 30 minute to AN hour type of thing – at most! I mean, I do love talking, but at the same time, I have a lot of homework work to do to graduate!!

Thanks for the tip on bringing a copy of my resume – I hadn’t thought of that! Anything else? Topics you think are worth discussing in the interview?

I had mine yesterday and I talked with her for an hour and a half about lots of intellectual things. It helps to know a lot of current events, science-related topics, and personal aspirations for talking points if you’d like to connect with the interviewer a little more.

However, in preparation, I would just brush up on information on Cornell, the curriculum, which college you applied to, which major, future plans, what your favorite activities were, what you did in terms of school, and most importantly Why you want to go to Cornell.

My son just had one yesterday. Was mostly informal. He told me they chatted about life at Cornell and his specific college within. Lasted about 2 hours.

Do not be alarmed if your interview only runs for half an hour. These one and half to two hour interviews are not the norm.
