Unofficial Transcript Trick

@PCMguy Heck yeah. I wanna go to UW so bad.

My Stats will be different from all of your ones, since I studied abroad. They consider me a regular freshman though because I’m American. Born in California, Los Angeles, in the USC medical center .-.

Country: Bangladesh

O Levels(Grade 9-10):
Maths, Pure Mathematics and English Language- A*
Physics and Accounting- A
Bengali- B
ICT- C

estimated gpa-3.57

A Levels(Grade 11-12):
Maths and Pure Mathematics- A
Physics- C

According to a bunch of people, I can skip first year Maths

estimated gpa-4.33

Under my system, we are not given GPA’s. I found out that my A levels are kind of equivalent to AP/Honors courses.

SAT: 1650, 1760, 1850, 1870
1870- Maths 700, Reading 530, Writing 640(Essay 8)
super score of 1920- Maths 700, Reading 580, Writing 640(Essay 8)

I suck at SAT’s .-.

EC’s:
Music- Drummer in a band 3.5-4 years, Vocalist in a band 1 year. Performed in a lot of shows.
Sports- Played football in and out of school, and golf and tennis in a local club. All for 4+ years. My schools never had sports teams, so I had to play out of school. Received a runner up award for a tournament in tennis. But I mostly played these sports for fun and still do so.

I really liked my UW essays, and I know that sounds like I’m patting myself on the back, but I usually don’t like my essays XD

Intended Major: Computer Science
Second Choice: Computer Engineering

Huge upward grade trend. Went from C’s and D’s to A’s and A’s. A being the highest possible grade. I got a C in ICT because the practical section required computers, and unfortunately since I live in a third world country, the PC’s were complete bs. Out of 7 questions I only finished 1. Luckily my theory section saved me

Top Choices: UW Seattle, UCSB and Purdue West Lafayette.

@Yvask95‌ I’m guessing you’re really want to go to UW because of the brilliant CS education.
Why haven’t you got more good CS schools in your top choices ?
You make huge jump from Purdue(#20) and UCSB(>#35) to UW(#6)

@Yvask95‌ just wondering lol :smile:

@PCMguy Well Purdue and UCSB are actually amazing Uni’s for CS. The only reason they may be a little behind in rankings is because that CS is one of the most competitive and applied to majors atm. And there are so many great Uni’s in America in these rankings. Just fyi, rankings aren’t everything :stuck_out_tongue:
For example, Harvard may be considered the best Uni in the world, in some/most rankings, but you may not like it there because you don’t feel comfortable there. You gotta do more research than just looking at rankings. I did a lot of research for Purdue, UW, UCSB and my other ones. I spoke to people, watched videos of people attending the Uni’s, read reviews, looking for the good and the bad, etc. I still took rankings into the most priority. Some were for rankings, such as UCLA and UCB, and some were for location. UCSB was a little for location, because my sister lives in San Fran, and that would make it easier for us to visit each other as well as my mother.

I really wanna go to UW because of the great CS department, but to be honest, that was just one small part. The city of Seattle is extremely musically diverse and that really got me into it. As a musician, I wanted to go somewhere rich in music and diverse in taste. I’m not a hipster myself, but I really enjoy the hipster style, and Seattle is considered “Hipster Central”. I also really love how Seattle is really “Green”. Plus Seattle is an amazing city in other terms as well. Amazing food, great location, friendly people, etc. But yeah, the CS department and the music world got me into UW
Also, UW’s campus is freaking beautiful imo.

I don’t have really high ranking CS schools because even though I would love to go to MIT, I have to be a little realistic :stuck_out_tongue:
My SAT scores are not even close to their 25th percentile and I’ve given the test 4 times .-. , my EC’s have nothing to do with my major, I’ve never made an app, I’ve never started a small business. I know some people say, “You’ll never know until you try”, but it just seemed so far out there. I do have other great Uni’s I’m reaching for, such as UCLA, UCB, Georgiatech, etc. I even had UT Austin but they were screwing around with me, and eventually told me that they would not check my application because I did not have the necessary pre-requisites. Pre-requisites that were not available to me, and pre-requisites that are not necessary nor needed in my line of study. They said I needed 2 credits in Social Sciences, such as Economics .-.
I had no reason to take Economics as a Science student. I may be an American, but that doesn’t mean that I should have to follow the same system American students follow, when I’m in a different education system.

Purdue may be 20th and UCSB may be 35th, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good :stuck_out_tongue:
Honestly speaking, anything below 100 is great. Purdue and UCSB also have great campus’s and are really world renowned. I also have UMass Amherst in my list, and that’s somewhere around 60. I don’t wanna go there though .-.
I keep hearing the campus isn’t pretty. I really don’t wanna go somewhere that looks depressing XD

Also by top choices, I mean that’s where I would really like to go
BTW UCLA is kinda overrated from what I’ve seen. I visited last December and went on their campus tour. The people are so friendly though. It seems like it’s only highly ranked because it’s in Beverly Hills, L.A. That’s just my opinion .-.

I’d still love to go there though

@Yvask95‌ holy cow. You wrote an essay. Wow.
Oh, I see your point. And I know Purdue UCSB, great schools.

As far as factors other than CS education are concerned, I work my way backwards.
I’ve till now got into 4-5 top 20 CS schools and have an option to go to the place which interests me the most.
This, to me, seems more logical. So yes.

And, just btw, no one feels “uncomfortable” at Harvard. Come on man.

I too have family in cal, hoping to get into Berkeley. That would like a dream come true.

Anyways, Best of luck. You seem to be in love with UW though, Hope you get in!

I would feel uncomfortable at Harvard, with the whole grade inflation and median GPA being around 3.7.

@PCMguy lol yeah. I got a little carried away, but I wanted to explain it properly

I used Harvard as an example :stuck_out_tongue:

Best of luck to you too
Lets all hope we get into our top choices!

@lukepeoples yeah that’s actually a good reason. Some applicants mother on CC posted that her son wanted to go somewhere where he would stand out, instead of Ivy Leagues. He could have gotten into almost anywhere he wanted, but he decided to go against the norm.

@Yvask95‌ I’m from Bangladesh too. I applied as freshman though I completed A levels in BD

@aerospace15 Cool. Which school did you go to? Maybe I know you o.O
You applied as a freshman to Uni’s this year, right?

@Yvask95‌ Yes, It’s Techno-Cider International School (Chittagong). And you?

I’m a current student and this trick actually worked for me but i don’t know if it’s gonna work now

@aerospace15 I’m from Dhaka. Went to South Breeze for O levels, and Mastermind for A levels. Guess I don’t know you :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey everyone! I wanted to post my stats here and maybe you guys could help me out a bit.
I unfortunately don’t have great stats but I’m still very hopeful as this is (and always has been) my dream school.
GPA: 3.6
SAT: 1600
1st generation to go to college… My sister goes to UW but I don’t know if there’s any way they can see that through my application, haha
EC’s and leadership roles: link crew leader, varsity cheer for 4 years, anti bullying program (leading lessons, etc…), church teaching, leadership class 4 years

AP Gov senior year and AP lang junior year.
I took pre calc as a junior and the math class for my senior year is physics. I took honors english as a sophomore. I’m scared about my C+ in advanced algebra sophomore year, although junior year I improved my math grades by getting B’s. If only math was my strong point!! I’ve had A’s in all of my AP and honors classes but I wish I had more AP’s to seem impressive…

My application showed a true dedication to athletics and leadership as well

Oh! I’m in state also, lol

@uwhusky1997 Doesn’t UW Seattle accept a lot of in state students? o.O
Also about the sister thing. They may or may not know :stuck_out_tongue:

@Yvask95‌ I didn’t know that, I thought they were very attracted to international applicants as well so I wasn’t sure. I’m getting so anxious as the time gets closer and I’ve read about a million threads on here to assure myself I’ll be okay. UGH I can’t handle this anticipation! Best of luck to us all, haha

@uwhusky1997‌ Lol I was actually asking you if they prioritize in-state students. I have no idea :stuck_out_tongue:
I know how you feel. The last few days are starting to get to my head. They feel longer than normal days. Good luck to everyone and let us know if you get in!!

I’m sure that those who will be in the first batch of admissions decisions will have their unofficial transcripts posted some time next week. Some students in Seattle may receive their decisions by Saturday or Monday, as noted above.

My unofficial transcript for UW Bothell was just posted (in the last five minutes), hoping UW Seattle will appear as well.

@lukepeoples Most of the people on this thread are freshman applicants, you are transfer so the changes on yours do not really count for us. Just thought everyone checking should know, perhaps some might freak out, like me 5 minutes ago.
