Unsettling tone in the email?

Just like everyone else (presumably,) I received an email telling me that the decisions will be available 2/11. Yet one specific sentence really bothers me and I’m not sure if it has any subliminal meanings.

“We received a strong pool of Winter Early Decision applicants and we appreciate the care and time you put into your application for the Class of 2020.”

Like, what does this even mean? This last line makes me feel like I’m automatically rejected. Can anyone confirm that this sentence is universally in all the emails Swarthmore sent out?

I also received the email. I would not worry. Swarthmore is not going to give any early hints. Fingers crossed for all!

Ha, I read that twice and it is not remotely ominous.

It doesn’t mean anything; they are just saying (as you already knew) that it is not guaranteed. My husband and I both got similar letters for our kids’ applications to our alma maters. Just saying “don’t be super depressed if your kid doesn’t get in”. It’s a form letter.

I got that email with that line and got accepted~ so it means nothing haha

You’re reading into it far too much. No doubt they try to pick their language carefully, but worry can get the best of us sometimes. It simply means they received applicants from very talented folks…and this talent includes you. Think optimistically and best of luck.
