Unsure, what should I do? (Nursing Major, UC/CSU)

I currently attend a CC and I'm almost done with my first year. My GPA is around ~3.33, and after this semester's grades, it'll probably stay the same.

My major is Nursing, but I'm not sure what I should do in terms of transferring to a UC or a CSU. The prereqs are slightly different for the nursing programs of a UC and CSU (different science courses) and right now I have to decide whether to register for one science class (for CSU) or another (for UC). I'm highly debating which would be best for me. I know I'm capable of raising my GPA, but at the same time, if I don't get accepted when transfer applications roll around, I'm pretty much screwed (well, wait till next year isn't exactly ideal for me).

Basically, should I try and go transfer to a pre-nursing program at a UC level, or, go with the second option of playing it safe and transferring to a CSU and if all else fails enroll in the CC nursing program (same prereqs as a CSU)? If I don't get accepted to a UC, I'm back to square one.. or at least another year or so of waiting.

One reason I joined the Honors Transfer program was for the TAP/TAG, but what sucks is that TAP/TAG doesn't apply to nursing majors.

I really want to transfer to a UC (UCI or UCLA), but at the same time I want a good guarantee that it'll happen. Do I have a good chance of transferring to a UC with my GPA? If not, would I still have enough time to bump my GPA higher? Obviously I'm not transferring yet, just want to make sure I want to make the right decision.

arghalskjklsaejklsae, I hate thinking about this stuff. That's why I went to a CC. =[

I think with your 3.33, you could try for a UC if you are more interested in research and perhaps want to go on to a graduate nursing program, as research might help you out at more competitive nursing programs like CRNA, to work inclinical research, or to teach nursing at the college level.

If you don’t want the competition of a UC education, the CSU is fine and will prepare you, perhaps a bit less theoretically, for the same job and given good effort, you will have similar opportunities and will save a lot of cash.

So ultimately the end result would be almost the same?

I was hoping following the IGETC, being undecided, would leave me at a better chance to apply as a trasnfer to both UC and CSU, but now I have to make the decision between transferring to either/or.

I don’t think competition in a UC is any different from a CSU, as nursing programs tend to be competitive anyways, especially here in California. I guess the better question what would I gain from a UC compared to a CSU, specifically in nursing?

You kinda answered that though… I guess it wasn’t so much of a dilemma. Thanks! Anyone else have any insight on this?
