Unusual admissions situation?

I am a HS senior (C/O 2015). If I apply to a local university to enroll there during the summer semester, can I transfer those credits over to the school I ultimately intend on going in the fall? If I do that, do I just tell the local university "Hey, thanks for everything, I'm not going here for fall semester" ?
Is this feasible?

I'm planning to do this because of my local university's scholarships, I'm eligible for some of their academic scholarships due to my test scores and it'd just be easier to get some credits out of the way....

Would you really get the scholarships beginning in the summer term? You could probably transfer the summer credits but many scholarships would start in the fall.

You can only accept one admissions offer at a time. That means if you accept Local U, you won’t also be able to accept Ultimate U in order to have that space waiting for you in the fall. And, unless you pre-arrange acceptance of those summer credits, there is no way of guaranteeing that they will transfer.

Sit down with your parents and sort through your the money issues. Apply to Local U so that you have one affordable option nailed down in case everything else goes sour. And apply to the other places that interest you, then see what the results are next spring.

1) You should go to the local school as a visiting student if you plan to go elsewhere in the fall. You cannot tell the local school you will be attending in the fall and take scholarship money from them over the summer and at the same time accept an offer to attend another college in the fall. As stated above, you can only accept one admissions offer or you risk that they will both be rescinded.
2) Check with the school you will ultimately be attending in advance to see if they will accept the credits for the classes you plan to take at the local school.

I called the admissions office of the local university and they said that what I plan on doing should be fine? I even asked them if it was ok that I planned on going somewhere else for the fall semester and they said that would be OK and just to make sure that the classes I take at local are comparable to the ones I’m planning on taking at the ultimate one. They said not to enroll as a transient or visiting student, because I am an incoming freshman?

I thought the admissions offer for my ultimate school would just apply to Fall 2015, so Summer 2015 is free game right? I’m not saying to both schools that I’ll be there for Fall 2015. I’m telling one school that I’ll be there for summer and the other for fall.

Then you need to call ultimate U and 1) find out if they’ll take the credits, 2) see if they will still consider you a freshman since you will have taken college courses. This may be sticky.

You need to call the school you want for Fall. They may consider your offer of admissions VOID if you begin as a freshmen elsewhere.

If you take a college class after graduation from high school many colleges will consider you a transfer and won’t consider you for freshman grants. The college you’re planning to take summer courses at will happily accept your money and won’t care that you plan to transfer. It’s the rules of the college you transfer to that matter.

Ok, thanks for all the advice! Do you think the policy will differ if I take courses at a COMMUNITY COLLEGE than at a university?

Not all universities accept credits from community colleges. Again, I’d check with the college you plan to enroll in the fall and get pre-approval before you take any summer courses.

Call the school!

Thanks for all the help everyone! Once I make my final decision in April, I’ll probably call and see if I can take courses over the summer.
