UofM, Miami (OH), or Purdue

I was just wondering what the advantages were for going to Michigan over Miami (OH) and Purdue. I got into LSA-undecided but now am thinking about engineering or business. I was accepted to Miami undecided and Purdue's Freshmen Engineering Program. I'm from OH.

If I went to Miami they have a "3-2" program. You take 3 years of engineering physics at Miami and then as long as you have at least a 3.0 gpa you can go anywhere to receive an engineering degree from another school in 2 years. With a 3.0 gpa, you are automatically accepted to Columbia, Wash U, and Case Western.

I have grown up watching Michigan Football and basketball so that is definitely a plus but I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra money to go to UofM. Cost is not a major concern.

If you're considering business and engineering, Michigan is significantly better than each of those schools (a top 5 engineering, top 3 business). Even in LSA, Michigan is a better school, but maybe not so much better as to be worth the cost difference. I think it is more than makes up for the cost difference with its quality of education, sports, and social life. You will have no problem getting into those "3-2" schools with a degree from Michigan, so that's really a non-issue. If you value social aspect (including sports) and academics over affordability, this decision is a no-brainer, you belong at Michigan.

wow 3.0...automatically accepted to columbia heh?? nice deal lol....but yea if ur looking at the whole package and you come out of UM with a nice solid gpa you would probably get into those anyways.....however a 3.0+ at UM is haaard! lol...actually a 3.5+ at UM is HARD...3.0-3.4 is pretty easy...i guess it depends on how good you are at working by yourself and learning material

but that 3-2 deal is nice...i think at least...and i applied to both purdue and miami (OH) for too when i was in HS for premed cases

that's a tough decision. I think Michigan would be your best option if you know you can maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. The reason I saiy that is because a 3.5 GPA will pretty much guarantee you a spot in the CoE and also give you a good shot at Ross, should one of those two appeal to you. But getting a 3.5+ GPA at Michigan is not always easy. In short, you are going to have to work hard your first year.

yes definitely work hard!
