UofPortland, Gonzaga, LMU, and USD???

Well I'm looking to add some safety schools, and I'm interested in those 4 schools.

Does anybody know about them?
How is their business program?
What school has the best social life?
Which school has the most spirit?

Or any personal experiences with the schools would be great.

Thanks

Pick Gonzaga.

Stockton went there.

So did Morrison.

Hahaha.

Oh a few more questions...

How religious are they?

How would you rank them in overall academics?

Any opinions would be great....

Well I already narrowed down my list to LMU vs. Portland......so would anybody like to share their thoughts.

USD had 10,000 applications last year compared to 7000 the previous year. Its acceptance rate is now around 30%.

I have heard some pretty bad things about Gonzaga, so I would try to stay away from there. Spokane is a pretty crappy city, and the social life there is bad besided the basketball games. Academically, it is definitely not on the same level as a San Diego, but I don't know how LMU stacks up academically. But it's in Los Angeles, whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you... I would hate it, although it probably beats the 250 days of rain you get in WA, haha. Give us the rest of your list, right now I don't know how you could go to either of these schools.

My dream schools are UMiami and UCSB. I would love to go to one of them.

My main safety is SDSU and I think I'm guranteed admission there. Here is the link.

I also like UCLA and UCSD.

I ran out of schools I really like, but I think I could be happy at Portland or LMU.....however i don't know much about these two and that is why i'm asking for advice.

Hey, yeah, Spokane SUCKS.

UPortland has a respectable business program. Not my favorite part of Portland, but probably one of the safest parts. 30 minute drive to all points in or near downtown.

USD isn't even in San Diego, if that says anything.

Uhm, Strykur, I think you are mis-informed. The University of San Diego is in the Linda Vista area of San Diego, about five minutes drive from the airport and downtown. It's actually a bit closer to downtown than SDSU. You might be confusing USD with UC San Diego, (but even UCSD is still very much in the San Diego city limits)

SoCal, it really depends what you are looking for. I just sent you a PM, but here's how I'd break them down. USD is probably the strongest academically, LMU is probably the most economically and racially diverse, U of Portland is probably the most laid back and friendly, and Gonzaga is probably the most conservative. If I had to pick two schools out of the four, I personally would pick either USD and U of Portland because I would much rather be in San Diego or Portland than Los Angeles or Spokane. But that is just me -- all four are definitely decent schools, but have different feels so, as I say, it really depends what you are looking for. I outlined some more differences for you in the personal message I just sent you.

Harhar!

And (I AM NOT JOKING ON THIS), my former calculus professor who works at San Diego MESA Community College said he was offered a professorship at USD that paid LESS than his current job! USD pays its professors less than does the local community college? Insane!

Just saying, from a San Diego perspective, USD is not popular (but neither is UCSD for that matter).

Go Zags!!!
What's wrong with Gonzaga?

Strykur, I know community college professors who passed on positions at Ivy League schools because as state employees their pay at community college was superior. Not outrageous, but superior to what the elite school was offering at the time.

That was at Essex County Community College in NJ. For example, look and see the compensation that the former mayor of Newark is getting to return to his "teaching" position at the college.

Strykur, I happen to have friends who are tenured faculty at USD, including someone in the math department. I asked them about your comment this morning. They both had a good chuckle and then said they are quite pleased with their salaries. The math professor wondered if perhaps your "friend" was being offered an adjunct, part-time position. As at most colleges, they earn less than full time faculty. But, as I said, my friends both said they have no complaints about their salary, and they appear to live rather nice lifestyles in a very expensive city.

Which of these schools have the best creative writing/english program?

How does Santa Clara and University of Puget Sound rank among these?
