University of the Pacific has accepted me, and it has offered me a very generous, renewable scholarship. I had wanted to attend a more prestigious school (shallow, I know), and I'm not wild about the idea of a school with this much Greek presence on campus, but it might be the best pick for me financially at this point... Plus, UCD rejected me for goodness sake.

So, what do you know about the school? Is it generally more liberal or conservative? Is Stockton as awful as everyone thinks? All opinions help!

A private college experience at an affordable price is nothing to sneeze at.

Never been to Stockton, and it isn’t a garden spot or anything, but people say the campus itself is beautiful and most students find enough to keep them busy on their college campuses. I can tell you that an acquaintance of mine recently mentioned that her freshman son was struggling somewhat with large classes in chemistry at one of the UCs and she commented, “I really wish he had gone to UofP …smaller classes, less competition.”

I know they have an emphasis on experiential learning and I think they might even make sure you get paid internships. (Though I’m not sure if that’s just in engineering.) Spend time on the website and I’m sure you’ll find other positive aspects.

If I chose to study law there would the law schools I’d apply for in the future look down on me? It seems to me that UoP doesn’t have the greatest reputation…

I think you should be directing your questions at U of P. Plan a visit and make some appointments to speak to professors in the College of the Pacific, say some political science profs, and also people in the career center. Ask them where their top graduates end up. If students graduate from there with high grades, honors, strong recommendations…where do they get into law school?

You’re the only one who knows what your other options are, what is affordable to your family, so it’s hard to comment further on whether U of P is the right choice for you.
