I applied EA for Harvard as a political student and would like to know if it would be advantageous for me to report to Harvard I just was chosen to receive Senate Youth Scholarship where I will be sent to D.C. to "represent" Oklahoma in March. Is this for now, or for later if I get deffered?

well considering they're pretty much done with their decisions, it serves no purpose to send that stuff in now.

wait till your decision, it's only 6 days away now, and then if you need to, send it in.

i sent in an update to my adcom two days ago and it appeared everything was fine...she said it'd be in my app and everything, so im guessing at the very least it wont hurt your chances...go for it

How can it hurt to send it in now? Fax them a letter about it. At worst, it will go in your file after you are deferred, and they can consider it in the spring.

Harvard has probably finished going through 90% of the apps. They will finish the rest tomorrow. If you mail it now, there is no way it will help you for EA.

E-mail it now. If you're deferred, the award may help you.

I wonder, if you're deferred and all of a sudden you win a major award and tell them (before they finish making decisions, at a time such as now), would they look back and possibly change your EA decision, if it's a significant enough update?

Don't think so, GuitarmanARS. But it will be in the file for the RD round.

GeorgeS, by all means, e-mail the Admissions office with your new award and ask them to place it in your file. It can't hurt and might help. And congratulations!

I disagree. I'd e-mail the update to them immediately. I talked to an MIT adcom two years ago who told me that the horse-trading among the committee, with applicants going on and off the admit list, goes on right up until the notifications go out. And you can read the same thing about Wesleyan in The Gatekeepers.

Send it. It can't hurt and can only help. It might just be thing that tips you off the deferred stack and onto the admit pile.
