Thank you, Jolynne_Smyth. As for D’s application, I’m supposing it was mostly her LSAT and GPA, as well as the fact that she has been working for several (now 4) years. Her jobs have not been law-related, but she does have some experience with writing grants and such, and she was a communications major, so her writing skills are pretty good.
According to an earlier post by @sylvan8798 (the OP), her daughter has opted for deferred admission to Harvard Law School in Fall, 2022.
OP wrote that her daughter may get some financial aid from Harvard Law School. Recently, I read an article that HLS recaptures financial aid through the law student’s summer work done during law school years. You may want to read the article. I believe that it was an Above The Law article. (Harvard Law School Is Bad At Math = title of article published June 4, 2021)
Sylvan8798 - thanks for the reply! Best of luck to your D!
Publisher - I’m not going to provide any more identifying information. As officers of the court of course all attorneys switching careers are required to consider any conflict issues before starting a new position and absolutely address before taking a case. I’ll just say there are many PD/prosecutor positions thoroughout the country that are not conflicted out.
And yep - I for sure know the difference bewteen a PD and private defense counsel!
I find this to be very difficult to accept unless in different jurisdictions which rarely see similar defendants.
Plus, there are several other reasons that this seems incredible, but there are so many jurisdictions in the US that it is not impossible. Would be very difficult to do so in a state with a statewide PD office and very difficult in the federal system.
Why would a prosecutor move to a PD’s office ? The pay is typically very low, the caseload very high, and little to no opportunity to refuse a case or to specialize.
At least share whether you are refeing to federal or state PD offices and whether statewide or locally run PD’s office, or whether it is a jurisdiction which randomly assigns PD duties to a local member of the bar on a case-by-case basis.
Regardless, this is hard to accept so that is why I asked for the jurisdiction & am now asking for what is clearly non-identifying information regarding type of PD set-up. (Nor did I ever request identifying information.)
P.S. At the very least, please share whether you are referring to federal PD offices, statewide PD offices, local PD offices, or a jurisdiction which just appoints a local member of the bar to represent an indigent defendant.
P.P.S. At the very, very least, please specify whether the prosecutor or prosecutors to whom you are referring remained in the same jurisdiction ?
