After meeting with the Dean of Admissions this afternoon I learned that close to 1,000 admit letters are being sent today and/or tomorrow, and potentially 500-600 more admit letters later this week.

HOWEVER, a large number of deny letters are also being sent in the coming week and a half; a much larger proportion than has been sent to date.

There will be a lot of disappointed students, but still 1,500 or so thick envelopes on the way. In the interest of transparency, I wanted to make this information available to you.

As always, send your questions my way. Good luck!

Mr. McConklin,
Thank you so much for providing detailed information about what’s going on in your admissions office; it makes the process much less stressful!
Because I applied to the double degree program, will I receive decisions from both Eastman and Rochester at the same time, or will they come separately?
Thanks so much!

You are very welcome. I am happy to help alleviate as much stress as is possible this time of year!

Dual Degree applicants hear from each admissions office separately. You should hear from both relatively soon, but not necessarily on the same day. I hope this helps.

McC – My son has already received his decision, I’m glad to say, but I just wanted to compliment you and UR for providing some authoritative information here. Obviously, not everything you have said is good news for all of us, but reliable information of any kind sure beats the radio silence from a lot of other schools during this extremely stressful time of year.

Well, I have a question. I am an international applicant (I’m from Poland) and I wonder how long can it take for a acceptance/rejection letter to arrive? I mean did you send it via UPS, Fed Ex or whatever other company there is or was it sent via regular mail?

I live in Rochester, and a few of my friends have already received their letters, is the decision process completely random, or were they better suited for the U of R. Also, any idea when letters will reach Rochester inhabitants?

thanks for the info! i live in jersey, and three people from my school applied, and none of us have recieved anything! hopefully, we’ll get accepted! good luck to everyone waiting and congrats to everyone who has been accepted!

@perry: you could just call them, maybe the never got it, or they havent updated it! theyre really helpful and super nice! good luck!

Kvasek - Decision letters are delivered to international students via Fed Ex. Our international counselors are aware of the time it takes for decisions to reach international applicants and have identified specific territories that may be more likely to be affected by delayed mailings. Unusual circumstances may warrant e-mail notification, but this is not likely the case for most international applicants.

Perry - I wouldn’t be too concerned with your mid-year report. We are still wating on a number of them, and as I have mentioned before, decisions will be delivered regardless of whether or not we have a mid-year report. If you are interested in re-sending it, send me a private message and I will provide you with a fax number to send the document directly to me.

Thanks everyone for the notes of appreciation. The application process is stressful all the way around, and I am happy to help make it even slightly less painful in any way that I can. Keep asking questions and I will continue to respond as openly and honestly as I can.

Still no word from U of R but my D did hear from Colgate today where she was accepted with a solid FA package. It will be too bad if she chooses Colgate over U of R simply because the month of agony of hearing other kids get acceptances vs her empty mail box.
Colgate was very clear everyone’s mailed on the 24th. No waves no agony.

Nothing in today’s mail out here in California.
We’re planning final visits and not going to bother with Rochester. For goodness sake people started posting decisions here over a month ago and still nothing. VERY POOR execution on the part of the admissions staff, although MConklin has done a great job keeping us informed. Case and Tulane have come through with good merit money and I don’t think Rochester will come close (4-5% get non-need based aid per Princeton Review).
sigh
Good luck to anyone still willing to wait it out.
