Updated Info for Hopeful Freshman: Class of 2016

I’m currently a freshman MT at UB. I know this forum hasn’t been updated in a while so if anyone hoping to be an MT here wants any information feel free to post here, or to message me through CC.

I don’t know if you will be able to, but can you tell me how long the theatre audition is? My daughter is auditioning in NYC and has to be at rehearsal later that day so is very stressed out.

Sorry I answered so late. I myself auditioned in NYC and I promise you it was not a long day. I believe it started around 8:00. If at Pearl Studios like last year you won’t be allowed up to the studios until probably 10 minutes before. It won’t start directly at 8:00. You will be allowed to change and warm up a bit. In my case the dance call was first. It was a brief combo compared to the one that apparently took place for on campus auditions. Then we changed into our audition clothes and there was a brief q&a and educational meeting with the program directors explaining about the programs, what they are looking for and what UB is about. It was maybe 1/2 an hour. Then you were sent to a separate waiting room to wait your turn for the acting/singing auditions. You went in, performed your material and then were free to go. I know on the official site it says there is a music theory exam for placement purposes however due to time restraints they omitted this at my audition so if that is performed I don’t know how long that would take. At other schools I auditioned for that portion was always brief. I was out within a few hours probably by 1:30 and I was one of the last singing/acting auditions so you will probably be fine. Your place in that portion of the auditions is decided based on the number you pick out of a pile at the dance audition (pinned number for the dance call) I was 18 so I went 18th in the acting/singing. However some students with conflicts or travel arrangements simply changed numbers with other people or requested to go early/first if possible without any issue. Break a leg!!! If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Thanks so much for the info! We really appreciate it.
