I got a cheap mattress topper from Target for $15 (Solebury is regular twin). I’ll let you know in a couple weeks how I like it!
There isn’t much left for me to buy. I’d like a couple more nice shirts and a power strip, but that’s all I can think of.
Right now, I’m just getting decorations. Posters, film for my polaroid, lights, etc.
You find 3M Command Damage Free Poster Strips at most drugstores or stores like Walmart or Target. Look where you find tape. By the way, I haven’t been on here awhile but congrats to you @stargirl3
@stormymom Thanks! I got double-sided removable poster tape from Staples.
FWIW, we found ourselves in a Target last weekend for non BTS shopping and bought BTS stuff earlier than we ever have historically. It was good…much better selection/inventory than when we usually go (mid-August). So my hot tip (even though I hate the fact that retail seasons are so premature these days) is to do your BTS shopping before the end of July.
We got DS his Bean boots about a week ago. Bedding is ordered. Now we need to focus on clothes. He’s coming from 9 years of coat-and-tie school, and so has no real casual clothes (beyond athletic wear). Hoping to hit the outlet mall in August. We need an iPad (req’d for Mercersburg) and a laptop. Anyone know if/when Apple has back to school sales?
We’ve been going to Target basically every day this month, just picking things up as they come to mind. If nothing else, Target with Mom is fun.
@hellomaisy DD’s school (Rectory) had a direct Apple store link which had the laptop a bit cheaper last year. Maybe Mercersburg has an Apple store too?
I just purchased a new MacBook Pro for K2 before he heads off for college . I spoke to an Apple Education Advisor- Mac Expert ( who was awesome ) and told her his name and college and we received a nice discount ( something like $200.00 ) .
Definitely call Apple and see what they can do. If the laptop/ pad will be used for education, I’m pretty sure they’ll give you a discount. I don’t know if the education discount applies to BS students… but I hope so and I wish I had known!! My kids used handed-down technology for BS… always giving my dear husband a reason to upgrade . …
Buying books can be painfully expensive. Buy used online and have them shipped straight to school, major savings of more than fifty to seventy percent on some special textbooks! Just be sure to have the exact ISBN codes so the editions match. You should compare conditions before purchasing, and also shipping locations/estimates. We use Amazon Prime.
Hi there! I will travel to US with DD one week before school starts to have time for shopping (and travel around!). I will go to Walmart, Target, BBB. I have to buy winter clothes like a jacket and boots. Albany area can be really cold in winter. I had a Canadian Goose jacket I offered to D but she hated, not fancy enough… Which brands are the coolest this time? For boots and jackets, I mean.
Is there a way you can wait on those items and send them a bit later? Even though brands like Patagonia (jackets) are popular, there a slight differences at each school and with each friend group. If you can wait and send something in the mail later, you run less risk of buying the “wrong” item!
You could try some on for sizing… Of course if she finds “the one”, then get it! LOL
But in general: Patagonia, North Face, or wool peacoat jackets are popular. You can’t go wrong with Bean boots (but they sometimes take a while to get once ordered - and definitely get the Thinsulate ones if cold is a concern). Good luck!
Has anyone happened upon a cheap faux wool peacoat? I love peacoats but refuse to wear wool.
We got my kid’s at Burlington. Don’t know if it is faux or not, but it was cheap!
@stargirl3 a slight digression, but why no wool (if you don’t mind me asking)? But, Lands End often carries them made of fleece… like this http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-polartec-aircore-200-pea-coat/id_267262.
@london203 No wool because @stargirl3 is vegan. (Providing only by means of clarification, not to derail thread with a vegan discussion).
@skieurope thanks! I learned something new today.
This is how I know I’m famous
