Hey y'all,

I have taken time off of school. I'd decided to apply very late this time around and asked my teachers to submit their recommendations in a hurry.

Now that I'm gonna apply for fall 2015, they wish to update their recommendations. My question being:
Are they allowed to edit their references for a new academic year on commonapp?

Thanks.

No. Need to resubmit under a new recommender account.

In fact, your common app account goes dead after September, I think. So, you need to start a new application too.

What!!!?

So I should backup all the essays and other info. from my account, right?
Can I register with the same email after it goes dead?

My counselor will have to recreate her account and upload the school report again?

Answer asap.

It is best you read the common application guidelines. It was a whole new platform and software this year. You may have access to your essays etc, but that is different thsn being able to edit them and resubmit that same application. Really, your best bet is to email the help desk at the common application.

No, counselor cannot create an account on her own. You have to issue another invite to the counselor.

But, I do know teachers CANNOT update a reference. They treat the upload just like mail. Once mailed there is no changing the letter; same here.

Plus, you should have a copy of your essays on your computer anyways; good backup habit.

I do have the backup on the computer. I’ll upload it on cloud as well, just to be certain :P

So, when I send the invite to my counselor for the next academic year, she’ll have to create my school report again?

Same with my teachers, I’ll invite them to give recommendations again and they can upload the updated ones!?

Yes, everything school report needs to be recreated and teacher references uploaded again, as you will have a different CAID number, thus a different application.

Thanks so much for this piece of information! Really appreciate it!

Just to make sure… Same emails can be used, right?

You are welcome, but I still suggest emailing the common app help line and double-checking that procedures have not changed.

I do imagine the same emails can be used if it is a completely new application with a different CAID number.

Alright! I will, thanks again.

@awcntdb

Dude, I don’t have a reply from commonapp help desk… I’d enquired 5 days ago!

Could you possibly ask them too?

All accounts will be wiped by August 1 when the application for next year open. You will need to create a new account and start new application all over again.

The above poster is correct. Need to re-register and submit a new application. The guidelines say so. Read the instructions in the current version. That is why they probably did not get back to you via email.

Well that’s great! Thanks for the responses, really appreciate it.
