@gratefulmama you are correct, better numbers than 18, I grabbed the wrong year. Fingers crossed on this one!
does anyone think that the current situation means they may pull from the waitlist before May 1?
This year, anything is possible… UChicago has already started taking kids off the waitlist, which seems unusual.
how do you think the division of colleges (wharton, engineering, a&s) affects likelihood of getting off the waitlist??
Waitlisted at Wharton also.
Here’s some math I did based on numbers in an NYT article and numbers off Wharton’s website (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/15/us/coronavirus-colleges-universities-admissions.html):
There are 117 international students and 336 Americans in Wharton’s undergrad that enroll each year.
The article says that there will be a drop of enrollment of 25% from international students, and 15% from American students.
117.25= 30
336.15= 50
So, 80 students will not enroll at Wharton this year because of the coronavirus.
However, we must take into consideration students that wouldn’t enroll at Wharton anyway (such as people who want to go to a different school, or who can’t afford it, etc.)
Last year, 101 students received waitlist offers from UPenn. Wharton’s proportion of the entire UPenn enrollment is 15%.
101*.15 = 15
So, 15 students will not enroll at Wharton this year because of reasons other than the coronavirus.
If we add up students who won’t enroll b/c of the coronavirus, and students who won’t enroll b/c of other reasons, we get 95.
Therefore, at least 95 of us will be attending the Wharton School of Business class of 2024, if these conditions are met:
- The rates explained by the article affect Wharton (which is unlikely btw, b/c it’s an ivy league and the best undergrad business school in the nation)
- The proportion between waitlisted students of Wharton/UPenn is 3/20 (If 2000 students were waitlisted by UPenn, then 300 students would have to be waitlisted by Wharton in order for my numbers to be correct)
Where to send the LOCI?
I had ti be uploaded to your portal by 4/15/20.
@kbinspections sorry but where does it say that? It didn’t mention it for me
When does UPenn usually start pulling off the waitlist?
where do you guys get Penn Regional admission counselor’s email contact? I am trying to send my continued letter to admission counselor.
@yungcollegeapp They start pulling off the waitlist from May to June
@collegeappzhou you can see state by state within region the name of a rep but the email is based on region: https://admissions.upenn.edu/contact-us
Go towards the bottom of the page.
is it necessary to send my LOCI to my regional admissions counselor or to penn’s admissions email. I uploaded it to my portal a while ago before the April 12th deadline.
I called the admissions office a while ago and there were specific instructions. Call before 5PM Est. The instructions may differ based on your region, so call just in case.
@kkotha are you waitlisted at harvard and penn too? saw you on both threads
Hi, I’m from Southern California, and when I sent an introductory email before my LOCI to the west regional admissions team, they told me to just upload it on my portal because it is available to all the admission officers. It was a bit embarrassing, because my introductory email consisted of what I was going to send in the future, but they just told me to upload it instead of sending it to them through email.
I don’t think there’s anything to worry about! Upload the LOCI as they told you, and you will be fine!
Sadly, yes.
@kkotha well at least u got waitlisted! I got flat out rejected from Harvard LOL UPenn was the only one that waitlisted me
What safeties are y’all gonna go to if UPenn rejects you?
@kkotha same for me!
I am committing to case western but would accept waitlist offers
