UPENN - Chance Me!

SAT 1510 GPA 4.6 White Male from Connecticut with a lot of community service, varsity sports, student government. Already into G-town and Fordham. Applied regular decision to UPenn.

You have a fair shot but UPenn is competitive for anyone. Way more qualified candidates apply than there are spots so a lot of it will probably depend on chance. Best of luck to you!

Court ordered community service? Just kidding! Stats are as good as any applicant, but with a 5% admissions rate, they’re going to turn down far more qualified candidates than they can admit. It’s nothing to stress over.

Good luck!

Unlikely. Not because you aren’t qualified, but because there are so many qualified applicants for so few places, that the chances of any individual qualified applicant being selected is pretty low.

On the upside, you already have been accepted to two amazing colleges.

Good luck!

Did you apply to Wharton ?

Do you want to continue with any of your sports while in college ?

Have you visited Penn & Georgetown ? If so, would you care to share your thoughts about each school as well as about Fordham ?

We visited UPENN G-Town and Fordham. My son applied to the Philosophy, Politics and Economics major in the school of Arts and Sciences at UPENN. He liked all of them. My oldest daughter is a Fordham grad to my son has been at Fordham several times . He also spent a week at G-town for a summer immersion class on International affairs.

Its hard to put Fordham in to the same “class” as UPENN and G-town. However, the Honors program Fordham is offering is putting him a very select group and that is value added.

SAT? Check. GPA? Check. You’ll make it into the round where officers actually analyze your extracurriculars. If your child is good enough at his sport to be recruited, I’m no expert.

If your child is not going to be recruited, I would say his chances of admission are not high, but also not abysmal. The only things holding him back are(and this may be due to lack of info initially provided on original post):

-His rigor. His GPA is a 4.6, but what did he take? Were they AP/IB?
-National/International Recognition. Does he have any national awards? What do they mean to him, and how have they impacted him? How big was the competition / event?
-Essays. So many people have the best grades, test scores, and ECs but write horrible essays that don’t demonstrate their passion and drive, as well as how they will succeed in UPenn, etc.

Just saw your post, SAT 1510 and GPA 4.6/; AP/honors student; high AP scores on tests taken so far; National Merit Commendable status (CT has a high threshold for NMS program); National Honor Society; Diocesan Summa Scholar (top 5% of all seniors in Catholic high schools in CT). Princeton Book Awards and at least 10 more academic achievement awards; Student Gov’t and several other clubs and high level of community service with lower income/minority children. He has gotten into Georgetown walsh School of Foreign service, Fordham’s global business honors, UCONN Honors, Boston College so far. His only problem is that he is a white male from CT.
