Upenn chances?

-3.0 GPA
-32 ACT
-Penn summer course grades A and B+ (Pre-College Program)
-Extracurriculars include: VITA (tax assistance for low-income people), Girl scouts (almost ten years), sports manager (7 years), 'seeing the stage through our eyes' with WST & Inquirer (Philly stuff, google it), school yearbook, etc. There's more, I just can't think of it right now.
-Applying to arts & sciences. I write a great essay-potential english major, maybe?
-My high school is well known to Penn as competitive and tougher than many schools in the area-a normal AP is a 'normal' course here. Then they offer AP's on top of that. I will graduate with three AP courses and two honors courses.
-I have a disability, which I believe has caused my grades to suffer because my teachers deduct points from my grades due to it (Asperger's). This will be disclosed.
-Applying early decision.

If there's something I forgot...UPenn was great over the summer and I really want to go back!!!!

Sorry, but I seriously doubt it… A 3.0 is way to low for UPenn. Maybe with a good essay about your Aspergers will help, but I just don’t see it happening.

Sorry. /: I’d still apply though.

EDIT: Are your grades an upward trend? If so, what are your junior grades?

Nope. I wouldn’t waste my ED on Upenn with a 3.0 gpa and 32 ACT.

I had a B- in all core subjects. (I did have APUSH in there.) I’m a really good student-this high school just draws so heavy on participation that it makes it impossible to get A’s for me, which is why I was told to disclose on the application.

Also, will it help that I’m from the Philly area?

Being from Philly does help because I’ve heard UPenn loves to have people from their area go there…

But I’m still not sure about whether you’d get in… You’re not an URM by any chance?

I’m a white Jewish female. So I guess not…

Also, if it helps, I’m not going to need any aid, loans, work-study, etc. I know they say need-blind… but come on…

3.0 GPA won’t make it in any top 20 school unless you are a recruited athlete or your family bought a building for the school.

0% 10 characters

Sorry 3.0 is too low… Don’t dwell on it though. There are still many great colleges that you can attend!

I thought about all this overnight…would it help if I submitted my manuscript for my play, multi-genre piece, short story collection, or some poems? Or all of the above? I want to study creative writing, so…

still a no unless your play is published first before you apply.

What if I self-publish some of my work? Alternatively, maybe I could have the play done at school…

I’m not sure anything would help at this point. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. :/

What year did you go to penn summer program?

So this is kind of redirecting the thread, but I visited Sarah Lawrence and loved it. Chances?

And I attended the summer program this past summer (2011) as a commuting student.

You should apply. Yeah, your GPA is not the best out there, but grades aren’t everything (just look at high stat Ivy League applicants–call it a ‘crapshoot’, if you want) on an application. Don’t get discouraged by naysayers on some online forum. If you don’t try, then you won’t have accomplished anything, and if you’re that passionate about UPenn, then apply.

Good luck, my friend.

If you took two classes in summer, have you talked to the professors who taught you about getting into UPenn?

Don’t even bother
