I saw lots of questions about interviews. Just as many who did not get interviews get in, I am sure that many who get an interview does not get in. The likely letters, on the other hand, I hear are a pretty sweet deal.

From what I have gathered looking at past threads regarding likely letters, they are mostly for URMs, athletes and geniuses. Bottom line, if you’re the average joe in the applicant pool, you’re not going to get it. However, the good news is that most schools only send LL’s to about 10% of their admitted, so there are still some seats left.

LL’s go to ~230 of the ~3,800 admitted students (~6% of admitted students). This number refers to academic LL’s as athletic LL’s are a completely separate process. This means ~94% of admitted students never get a LL, so not receiving a LL should not alter you expectations (which should be low for anyone to begin with considering how competitive top schools like Penn are).

ditto

Waited patiently for like 2 months but the Penn interview never comes. Guess it’s a no for me.
But anyone knows how they send out interviews? Is it a random or selected? I know not getting interview won’t hurt my chance, just curious though.

Penn interviews are random. Not selective at all. They try to give interviews to all applicants. Do not lose hope! Even if you aren’t interviewed, that is okay. Adcoms will understand that it was because the alumnus couldn’t find the time to conduct it. No interview in no way means rejection in the case of Penn.

@Conscience13
Thanks! So it is random, haha, good to know :)

Interviews are not selective. Penn TRIES to interview all the applicants, but that isn’t possible at this time.Do not lose hope - I must stress that applicants are NOT pre-screened (although very rarely the committee will REQUEST a student be interviewed). Take a look at the interview FAQ ( <a href=“Preparing For Admission | Penn Admissions”>http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/interview-faq) - you will note that NOT having an interview (or declining one that has been offered) will NOT be held against you. Do double check your spam filters. More than once I’ve had my emails caught there. I only find out when I place a follow up phone call (check your voice mail too!). It’s a good practice to e-mail twice and then call - but I can’t guarantee all interviewers do that. I suspect some - especially interviewers with a heavy load - just indicate on the report that the student never replied to the request.

just received an email from penn and i panicked for a second lol. anyways it was just a link to check my decisions on the 27th @ 5pm. ah so nervous now. Did anyone else receive the same email?

I didn’t receive an email either, but my friend did. Do you think it is a bad sign?

Did not receive the email either but I guess I can’t do much about it this late in the “game.” All I am hoping for is that all my materials are received and I am not “disqualified” because I was missing something (even though I never received a email concerning missing materials).

@RCLVRR I did the same thing! Lol, that email got my hopes up.

Nvm…email just came. D-Day/Week is gonna be interesting!

My D received the email as well, just forwarded to me. 15 days!

Same here. I want it to be over…

Got the email. Now I should seriously find something to distract me in the next 15 days.

Just a quick question, has anyone received a notification from the financial aid office yet that confirms all documents have been received? I haven’t, it’s the middle of March, and I want to know if this is normal.

I haven’t either. Do they usually send out confirmation of documents emails?
