So I was asking if they already offered all the spots they have at this time to the first wave and only if people from the first wave, then there will be spots for the second wave.
She said yes but then she mentions that many regular decision applicants are still making their decisions (which means that those spots can also come to the waitlist) and in addition she’s saying that people might decline their accepted spots or choose a gap year.
To summarize, those spots that the first wave declines, those that are still deciding but decides to decline spots (they haven’t made an decision yet most likely due to an extensions) and those who decide to drop out or take a gap year spots = the spots that will come to the waitlist.
If the first wave has two weeks to accept (i.e by June 3rd), wouldn’t they have to wait a few days after to see how many to admit in the second wave? (in case, some people choose to wait to the last minute on June 3rd to accept?)
Hello. I created an account just to comment on this thread. So I have some information. I called to ask about waitlists and I spoke to a very nice lady. She told me that 81 spots have been given out on the last wave last week and as far as she knows, waitlist decisions will be used next week but might be very limited. By the beginning of June we will know if waitlists will be closed or not.
I seriously don’t know if I should be happy that 81 spots were given out proving they are using the waitlist or sad because there won’t be much more spots left. But then it feels like way too less people reported for a total of 81 spots given out. By this point it’s really just out of our control, we should just have faith in ourselves and believe that we got this! Good luck to all of you!
Seems to me that they have just updated their official word as the person that answered my phone confirmed the 81 offers. In addition he confirmed that the 81 offers already took in consideration of yield rate (which means that there are way less amount of spots actually open). He also mentioned that the next wave, if there is one will be very limited and that all of us will get some news (like an email) in early June. He also stated that more room will only come from those spots declined int eh first wave and those deciding to switch to another school or take a gap year.
When he said that more decisions will be extremely limited, my heart was broken into pieces
did she say how many people got waitlisted overall-in truth theres probably like 3000 of us so 81 is pretty much nothing (even less considering that this is across all schools not just cas and that most of the wl acceptances seem to be domestic)
No they can’t provide that info but in the past years all about 2000-2500 accept the waitlist offer while around 3000 is placed on the waitlist. But to be honest 81 spots was more then what I’ve expected since this year yield rates were thought to be higher and three years ago only 9 were accepted off the waitlist.
I know I shouldn’t be the one saying this but I think at this point the numbers don’t matter as much because we shouldn’t be suspecting a large amount of offers to begin with and for the rest of us we have to admit that there’s a limited chance that we’ll get in. Plus like I stated previously calculating the numbers don’t help since everyone’s chance is different. And as always good luck to everyone!
(I know I’ve been doing a lot of statistic calculations lol) however lately I’m kind of afraid to touch the numbers because it’s like the more I know about it the more disillusioned I get
It most likely not but I was just wondering if the admission office looks at caller ids and make note of who calls in (possibly a negative consequence)?
Hey I just talked to two people who got off the Penn waitlist on reddit. One was the international student from Myanmar (full pay) and the other was a domestic (full pay). They told me that their decisions were given to em on May 20, 5 PM EST and that they had 2 weeks to reply which means until June 3 midnight. Thereby, we shouldn’t be expecting a second wave until 3rd June and maybe a lil after that as well considering the fact that they gave 81 offers keeping the yield in mind, like the “awesome” dude said. So, they dont really expect to review it again if everything works out. Thus whatever spots are left after June 3 will be taken care of later. Also, the deferral deadline for RD admits is June 5 which means they will know by then that how many people are taking a gap year and so, we can finally expect something like around 5-6 days post June 5, in my opinion. Last year, there was a wave around 11 June after the ones in May. I am expecting something likewise. Let’s just have faith as far as the rest is concerned.
There was a wave on June 12th last year so we maybe can expect something like that. I’m also worried that financial aid is playing a role in this choosing process because I’ve seen quite a few full pay getting off, is there anyone that got off with a significant amount of FA offered?
