UPenn ED Class of 2022 Discussion

Does anyone know how many got deferred?

@hopeful2022 This year and last year Penn hasn’t announced the % deferred. Wonder why. Before that the % was in the low 20’s. The majority of ED students were always rejected, rather than deferred. But I wonder if they increased the percentage deferred, and that’s why they aren’t announcing.

@hopeful2022 around 1.5k-2.5k students are deferred if they’re still deferring a quarter of the applicants.

hi! I have a question. I took 2 sat subject tests, I have a 780 on math 2 but a 690 on physics. Should I submit both or just one?

@kassh4 I got a deferral too. I plan to show them how much I love Penn (like a why Penn essay) , why Penn should accept me and what I have done this semester after Nov. 1st.

Because it’s really hard to stand out from these extremely competitive pool, I still need to consider about this essay. The deadline is in the end of January.

Personally, I would say to just submit math. I didn’t submit any and was accepted… the best piece of advice I was given was to not give them anything that they can use to compare you on the lower end. Basiclly if it isn’t amazing just don’t send it if you don’t have to.

@bookluver04 I submitted a 650 and I got in. Although the other two SAT2’s I submitted were 750+ scores so idk

Applicant from the Bay Area, CA here. I haven’t received an email yet regarding a Penn alumni interview… when, at the latest, would I get such an email (if at all)?

Hey guys, I need some advice:

I am a RD applicant from Philadelphia, and recently submitted my app and supp. In my supplement, I discussed how I want to double major across the two schools, and was planning on attending SAS. After reading more into it though, I found out that only SEAS students can dual major between the two schools, and the option was limited to a couple majors for SAS students. This forced me to apply to SEAS instead of SAS. Now my problem: I’m not submitting any SAT 2’s, I’m not a complete robotics fan, and not all my ECS are engineering oriented. Should I request for a school change to SAS and hope for the best? or should I take the risk. Thanks.

If your stats are strong enough and your essays and recommendations are too, I’d leave it. Calling in and requesting a school change risks drawing negative attention to your application. In RD, the idea is to stand out, but for positive reasons. SAS vs SEAS could be a simple typo that they miss. But changing your school application risks it looking like you didn’t do your research on the school in the first place - and don’t actually know what you want from Penn. Taken together, that sounds like you are unlikely to attend, even if they accept you. Which gives the AO’s a subliminal reason to reject you. Keep in mind, more than 9 out of every 10 applicants in RD are going to be rejected. Try not to give them any reason to put you among the nine?

@yungdepression I’m in the same situation except I’m from NYC… I’m really hoping that I’ll still get an interview :frowning:

I wouldn’t worry about interviews. Some interviewers like to wait until last minute and they aren’t due until feb from what I’ve heard so there’s still time.

@oswidan of course you can dual degree from SAS! request a change

@kassh4 Yup, the soft deadline is Feb 15, and usually gets extended through the end of the month for everyone who did not get matched with an interview at that point.

@Saranyaa I didn’t mention dual degree in my supplement, just dual major. The only way I could dual major in Comp Engineering and STS is if I am an engineering student. Do you think I should still request change? Would it raise red flags if I emailed them? (showing I am irresponsible/ indecisive?)

for everyone who is deferred, what are you all sending late this January?!?!!?!

Does anyone have any idea which housing selection is best? Did anyone already submit selections for their college house preferences yet?

@aneeshs17 Heya! do you know the name of that investment competition you mentioned previously?

@canadianxoxo Yeah! It’s the Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS) Investment Competition. It already started for 2018, but here’s the link:

For ED admits, tell your parents that there is a Facebook Closed Group called “Parents of UPenn Students” that they can join. There are about 650 members right now. There is a lot of information available, and they can ask any questions they have there. It is only for parents though.
