undergraduate experience depends on what you want and who you are..

Penn is indisputably more prestigious and would win the vast majority of cross-admits. Penn by a long shot in my book

Most people on CC would consider Penn more prestigious, but in reality they probably have similar name recognition, depending on where you are in the country. A lot of people don't know what Penn is (they think it's Penn State), and a lot don't know about NU either (I've often heard it confused for Northeastern here on the East Coast). In terms of academics, they are comparable, and you should base your choice on preference.

Penn is not "indisputably" more prestigious. According to whom? Those in academia or Joe the Plumber?

Penn is not more prestigious than Northwestern...not to the educated elite. Of course, if one wishes to bully the intellectually inept, Penn may hold an advantage. But anybody with a noteworthy education will not differentiate between Penn and NU.

^ Go back and look at this posts on CC. His view of prestige has never been accurate.

Or rather, they have been too rationally thought out. Prestige is simply not rational, and while UP and NU are objectively peer institutions (at least in non-applied economics), Penn's location in the powerful BosWash megapolis and more experienced/savvy marketing machine (oh, and that "Ivy" label certainly doesn't hurt) give Penn an edge in prestige.

But not in academic quality...it should be noted that Northwestern is actually richer than Penn, both in net worth and per-student measures.

Last but not least, I would (and did) pick Penn, but didn't apply to Northwestern (did apply to UChicago though)
