*** UPenn RD applicants discussion thread ***

I have a question. I was contacted for a skype interview around 22:00 last Tuesday and replied but have had no further contact up to now. With interviews due soon (if not past the date) , I’m not certain how, for a lack of a better word, professional this is.
Not that I do not understand the pressure interviewers face, but a timely response would be nice.

@rahuilmars231 According to Dean Furda’s interview this weekend (link below), all applications have been reviewed by regional admissions officers (with the clear cut admit/deny decisions already being made). Now, the borderline candidates go to the larger committee for final evaluation.

@northstarfx this interview is a joke. That guy was barely audible until we are halfway through.
I appreciate the link though  by the way, do you think if we send updates, they will read our applications again?

Wait so I see a lot of people asking about likelies for dual degree applicants. If you don’t get a likely letter can you still be accepted for your dual degree?

@rahuilmars231 What makes you think it is a joke? I highly doubt that he would joke. They asked him a question, and he answered. The timeline makes sense too

@TheWaffleMan149 I meant the interview was hardly audible. The background noise and all that chaos was disrupting their conversation and we do not understand what he says until half of it is finished.

I understood just fine what he said, although I agree the noise was disrupting. It isn’t like he dropped a bombshell or anything; he just said that they are moving to committee

Dude, I did not comment on the content of the interview. Just the background disturbance.

So since they’ve already begun going to committee, why even ask me for an interview?
Odd happenings.

@Nedcone maybe they’re yet to review your application.

@rahuilmars231 Fair point, I do hope they get back soon.

I have volunteered to be an interviewer. For those on this thread with questions about that process and whether they will get an interview I can confirm a few things:

  1. Interview reports need to be in before midnight tomorrow.
  2. Penn does not Pre-screen applicants at all. In fact, over the last couple of years, I, and several other interviewers I know, have complained that we have interviewed several candidates who did not seem to be serious about Penn. Many have complained about this process because volunteer time is valuable, and many candidates, like some who have reported here, won't get interviews.
  3. Not getting an interview may be a function of there not being any capacity to do interviews in your area. If one of the volunteers in your area gets sick, goes out of town on business or unexpectedly says she or he cannot take interviews, then some candidates won't get interviews. I have been told that does not hurt your chances. It is more likely that it will hurt your chances if you are offered an interview and do not make an effort to respond or attend the interview.

Good luck!

If the regional admissions counselor for your area is “To Be Determined” do you think they’ve reviewed your application yet? Also, who would I send an update to if my counselor isn’t named?

Update: Interviewer got back to me later today, which is good. The bad was that he explicitly stated that the write ups are due tomorrow and thus asked for us to have a very brief sub 15 minute phone interview, where the guy asked me about three questions before essentially ending it.

I know the interview isn’t necessarily worth much, but I do feel my interview wasn’t the best format.

@Nedcone As long as you didn’t seriously bother your interviewer, your willingness to accommodate the interviewer’s clearly busy and difficult schedule can only count in your favor. Don’t sweat it!

So I just watched Dean Furda’s interview (http://www.ivyleaguedigitalnetwork.com/penn/video/penn-halftime-interview-with-dean-eric-furda) did he officially say that Ivy day is Mar31? Did you guys hear any other interesting updates?

Also any updates on likelies?

Ivy Day is definitely March 31 @baller55

Does anyone knows how many females apply to Engineering and how many of them get admitted?
And also has any Likely Letter been sent out this year?

@HelloEveryone27 First of all hello to you too :stuck_out_tongue: Secondly, as far as I know, atleast among the CC community, Noone has received a likely from penn yet. People have recieved those from Columbia, Dartmouth and Harvard but not Penn.

So I just found a typo at the end of my penn essay, that goes “if accepted to The University of Philadelphia.” PHILADELPHIA. How much can this hurt me? I would hate for them to think i wasn’t serious about the school because of this.
