@shemp903 I highly doubt a 32 ACt is going to hurt you. I had a 2140 SAT and a 31 (one sitting) ACT and I received acceptance into Duke and JHU, whereas my friend with a 23-- something SAT didn’t. It all depends on how you show yourself and what else you have done. I don’t think “rural” people are at a “bit of disadvantage.” Its silly to think that they are going to judge you based on where you live.
@fhskid in terms of the quality of teachers and education of a rural school compared to a college prep//excellent public school, I’m not sure it offered me the same experience and opportunity to develop my educational skills.
@shemp903 I honestly believe that if you show you made the best of it (grades, awards, etc.) and if you have a boss as heck test score (a 32 is amazing) you’ll still be highly regarded! Your school profile may play a bit of a role in terms of comparing you to other students, but I don’t think it will highly impact the decision. But hey man, all we can do now is wait until D-day!
@rik123 My GPA is also around 3.5, but in our school, we are ranked by our weighted GPA (out of 6.0)… :’( Which is why I’m only in the top 20ish%. If you calculated my weighted GPA how everyone outside of Texas calculates it, it would be around 4.3-4.4, which would look way better.
I tried using the Academic Index tool, but it kept giving me different numbers. When I used my rank, it gave me a 3. When I used my unweighted GPA, it gave me a 5. When I used my weighted GPA, it gave me a 7. How does Penn calculate/convert your GPA to compare students with different GPA scales?
Does Penn consider the number of students that were accepted to Penn or other prestigious schools in previous years? Cause then they would see that the top 10% of people at my school were accepted to at least one of the top 20 schools each year. There’s a group of 4 kids in my Micro class that were accepted to Harvard. And that’s just in one class!
Do the dual degree program admits find out on the same day as regular admits? like huntsman for example
@pisker yeah, they do. I guess that earlier they used to send out likelies to all the dual degree admits but apparently there has been no report of a dual degree likely yet :((
Just received an email – I was like wait what … wuts going on, but it just turned out to be one of those ‘we’ll let u know on the 31st’ emails.
@Grapess did it say they enjoyed getting to know you through the admissions process?
