UPenn, Umich, Rice...?

I've been accepted at five schools for Electrical Engineering:

Georgia Institute of Technology
University of Pennsylvania
Univeristy of Illinois - Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan
Rice University.

I'll have to pay out-of-state tution for all of them, and can't really decide which one will be the best. Any advice? :)

Rice cause its the cheapest and as good as the others

The Rice engin school has elite students and faculty but Ga Tech, Illinois, and Michigan have bigger engin schools with better facilities w/ more advanced labs that a smaller school like Rice cannot match.

Companies hiring engineers are more likely to recruit at Ga Tech, Illinois, and Michigan because they have bigger graduating classes, therefore, a greater yield in terms of numbers.

Ga Tech, Illinois, and Michigan also have bigger alumni bases which will be an advantage throughout your career.

Rice engin is a good if want to attend a small school w/ a better opportunity for faculty interaction, but from a career standpoint, Ga Tech, Illinois, or Michigan would be a better choice.

Rice is more fun. The close interactions with Profs and great internships mean it's easier to get good recommendations and opportunities - especially if you are going on to grad school.

I'd say look closely at UI-Urbana or Rice and throw the other decisions.

Rice and UI are completely different schools with their own prestige. UI is top ranked for electrical/computer engineering, if I'm not mistaken (#2, no?....can't remember). UI's campus is pretty too, in its own regard. the campus and feel, however, is larger.

Rice's campus is gorgeous as well, but it's much smaller. you will meet absolutely nobody at rice that is subpar as far as intellect. and, like stated earlier, the class sizes are small/more intimate, etc.

I say throw out GaTech because they are just cutthroat competative (students are, that is)....

I say throw out Umich because I used to go there and hated it. alot. no other reason. I just think that place was terrible--but then again I'm from Houston, and Michigan is a stark difference to Houston.

good luck!

-Mike

also, throw out georgia tech because they have just about no undergraduate research outside of their presidential scholarship program

Throw out Rice too, because I want it all for myself...
Haha... just kidding...

treekid, are you an ent? ;) (just kiddin')

UMich is supposedly a hellhole for UG as people tell me, so I second UVa SVT (Mike). I know a friend who picked UIUC over Rice as he wanted to do EE. He eventually decided against EE.. but still likes UIUC a lot... I can ask him...

Rice <3,
because it is wonderful
and because I said so.

only... in... my... previous... life...

why do you think i like rice? i'd fit in with the rest of the trees!!!

idk. i like ellipses for blog/forum-type things.

4th in the nation. Prob the toughest school you got into. And deff not lacking in teh academic part. Will offer you a lot plus a name.

Penn is not great for everyone. The area is not great, it is gigantic and I heard from some who went there (who were not happy) that it is not that easy to make friends. Ranking does not guarantee a great college experience.

and in this deprtment it is ranked relatively poor. I disagree Jean Pierre, as decisions should not be prestige ruled...
