upenn?

White, suburb of philly
small catholic high school, all girls, very rigorous (and we've already got 5 in ED at penn)
we don't rank. we have 135 in my class though.
GPA:4.0 weighted (not very good...)

last year i took AP eng lang exam and got a 5 and APUSH and got a 4
classes this year: ap bio, ap calc ab, ap latin lit, ap eng lit, h. physiology, religion (mandatory)

SAT's:
Reading 780
Writing 750
Math 730
Total:2260

SAT II's:
US History 690
Math 2c 700
Chem 590 (but i already called them, i have a good excuse)

EC's:
editor in chief of the yearbook

first chair trumpet in ensemble, jazz band, and pit orchestra

american math competition school winner in 10th grade (does that even matter to anyone?)

national honor society, national latin honor society

very involved with my church service group- i'm on an archdiocesan advisory board, have a boatload of service hours from that. i teach ccd, among other things

volunteer at a local cancer hospital with art therapy

my biggest thing i have is my internship at the same hospital- like 50 kids try out and only a dozen or so get it. i'm doing research on cancer prevention and i've created my own research project studying behaviors and attitudes regarding cancer prevention and HPV in high school students.

oh and i'm also national merit semifinalist (and prob a finalist, everyone from my school who is semi becomes finalist)

do i have a chance RD at penn?

any ideas...?

I'm also applying to U Penn but to Wharton. Your SAT II's are a little low. Okay extra-curriculars. It would help if you have awards in the medical field (They would push your ECs to superb). Good luck.

My school is funny. We haven't had a U Penn acceptee in 5 years. All the top kids apply to HYP. (8 to Harvard in Past 3 Year)(3 in the Same Year 2005) U Penn is always left on the wayside. Pretty depressing for us,and for U Penn too because they've received only mediocre students in the past few years. Best of Luck!!!

doubt it, you've got a shot though

good shot....

Just curious, what was your excuse for the Chem SAT II? I've got a (completely legitimate) excuse for my terrible score, but am not sure it'd fly.

haha well i've never taken a full chemistry class! my 10th grade class only covered 2 chapters in our book, so i signed up for what i thought was a chem camp this past summer (and signed up for the october SAT2 at the same time). as it turned out, it was a life science course that covered everything from physiology to physics (don't ask me). i didn't have any other tests to switch on the day of (my counselor told me not to bother with more english stuff b/c of my 5 on the language exam), so i tried to teach myself chem from a princeton review book. it was a disaster.
i thought the whole thing was just a summary of a lot of lame excuses but the admissions lady at penn who works with my school said that it was actually a pretty decent excuse, especially considering most kids who take SAT 2 Chem have already taken AP chem or something. we don't have ap chem at my school because the teacher is horrible but the school refuses to dismiss him cause he does all sorts of crazy research. in my rec, my counselor wrote about how i made the best of my educational situation by seeking out other opportunities through which i could better my understanding of the science field. haha it's common knowledge that our science department is seriously lacking.

good chances
