Upland Bird hunting?

Hello, my father and I have been quail and pheasant hunting since I was about 10. Do you guys think that this is a good thing to list as an extra curricular? My counselor said that college admissions officers are peace loving people and that I shouldn't list it..but it's something that is pretty important to me and it's certainly unique. Additionally, my other extra curriculars are pretty substandard. I'll be applying to schools like UPenn and Cornell. Thoughts? I'll probably list it somewhere between 3rd most important to most important if i list it.

bumptious..

i also hunt, and wondering the same. free bump.

haha. bump again.

How does your counselor know who hunts?

I'd include it. If nothing else, it may make an interesting interview topic. You never know who is into what hobbies and such. Admissions officers are people, too..........

thanks! anyone else?

for where to ask questions like that with admission officers.

um...are you particularly good at it? this is an interesting topic...I'd think it would be weird to put on an app, but it's wouldn't hurt that much and it might help

If you had other strong ECs to mention, I would suggest you not list it. In the absence of other significant activities, perhaps you should, but I think you're quite right about putting it a bit down the list beneath other things.

I don't see it as an EC in the general context. I agree with hobbie perhaps. Risk you could turn people off.

thanks to everyone who answered.

Hunters are usually very appreciative of America's wildlife and natural environment. Hunting license fees make a major contribution to wildlife conservation efforts in this country. Perhaps you can use your skill as an essay topic, and approach it from a wildlife conservation angle. Also, shooting is an NCAA and Olympic sport. Are you interested in and good enough to be recruited by the few colleges that offer trap/skeet shooting and riflery?
