they say it's always gratifying for them to match a face to someone they've met in the year.... i take this to mean campus visits or something. but i've never met with a penn rep, much less visited campus, cos i'm an international. should i still upload a photo of myself though?

why not? maybe they'll confuse you with someone they've met/loved and accept you on the spot :)

by the same token, they could confuse you with someone they've met/hated and reject you on the spot :(

do what you will -- if you've got a picture you like, there's no harm in sending it.

I think they like to match a picture with an application. They meet everyone, not literally, through their application. It is easier to reject a faceless application in my opinion.

As long as you look happily innocent and lovable in your photo.

Don't worry about not visiting if you're an international applicant. They don't expect all their international applicants to have the time and resources to visit Penn for just a few hours.

yep no reason why you shouldn't put a pic; not including one could be interpreted as a lack of self-confidence.

wud it b good/bad if i put up a pic taken at the penn campus?

I don't think using a picture taken at penn would make a difference. It's kinda corny though, sort of like wearing a school's sweatshirt in the picture, but the admissions office is so busy they probably won't even notice.

I think it would be a mistake to not download a photo. In my view it shows a lack of interest and commitment to the application. What's the down side? Most kids they will not recognize.

lehcar: Not true. A Taiwanese composed a picture of himself with M.I.T. background and put the words "I LOVE MIT" on it and got in via early. He even sent in through supplement...

huh? internationals aren't allowed to apply early at MIT.

I mean not MIT,Penn...-.-... forgot this is the UPenn forum.

Submitting a picture from campus is really tacky. It certainly wouldn't "help".

mm....wud it harm?? :P...ive been thinkin it mite look corny frm the begining....i no its no big deal for them to see that their applicants hav taken their time to visit the campus..but it is pretty much a big deal for me to visit the campus since i live in another country nd i dont get chances to see the campus as easily....dunno if theyd feel the same way too....:S...any suggestions?

Do we insert a picture into a word file and upload the word file to our application ...the reason I ask is that the app won't let me upload a jpg picture...

I was wondering the same thing inthezone. What did others do?

Yeah, you'll have to copy the picture into a word document and upload that. For some reason or another, it won't let you upload pictures directly (jpg, gif, etc)

my scanner program lets me save the scan directly as a pdf. IMO msword screws up the picture quality, but that's just me hahah

I didn't do it, on principle. Just like how I didn't check anything for ethnicity.

Even subconsciously, you don't want them judging you.

hm, i was really concerned about that too - I'm an Asian, Chinese to top it off. but they would be able to tell I'm Chinese by my name and my country anyway, so rather than come off as trying to hide something, I boldly checked truthfully under ethnicity and I'm gonna upload a photo.
