Why are upper division courses restricted to history majors/premajors for fall but not for winter and spring quarter?

Anyway, I plan on switching into the history major and I have completed the requisites already, but I can't take any of the upper division stuff. For those who have had experience, what does the petition entail and does it get process quickly? The reason is ask is that maybe I can enroll in time for a fall, upper division history course before instruction begins because of the restriction.

I have a question for you, sorry. But if you’re not a history major, how did you take a class in the History 96-97 series? I’m a Poli Sci major who wants to double major in History, but I can’t enroll in that history class unless I’m a Pre/History major, and I can’t be until after I petition to double major, and I can’t petition to double major if I don’t take a class from History 96-97 =

I took a class in the history 96-97 series during the last spring quarter, which is why I am puzzled. Why are fall quarter upper division and 96-97 series history classes not available to non-majors?

This is because summer orientations are not done yet and it would be unfair if non-history majors get to take the spots of classes that history majors need. When it is their turn to sign up for classes, it wont be open since nonmajors alrdy took the spots. Therefore, after all the history majors sign up classes the required classes, spaces that are left will open up for nonmajors. You just have to wait until the end of orientations.

Really now? Generally first pass is restricted to history majors/premajors… I wasn’t aware that it was for the very first quarter. I think it has to do somewhat with transfer orientations and enrollment appointments for them seeing that they’re jumping into upper-division courses.
