Upscale Office Interview: Suit or Shirt+Tie?

Hi all!
I've got a big college interview today for one of my super-reaches, taking place in my interviewer's extremely posh law office! Anyway, I've got a pretty simple question: should I go all out with a suit, or keep it business casual with a shirt+tie+khakis and blazer?

Thanks!

bump, c’mon guys!

hey i think a shirt and tie will do :)

Either would be acceptable. Because it’s an “extremely posh law office”, a suit would not be out of place. Because you are, presumably, an unemployed college student, the shirt, tie, khakis, and blazer would also be fine. Wear whichever you look best in–you’ll be more confident.

I went with a suit (technically blazer + pants + tie + white shirt) for my interview in a law office (in Portland’s nicest office tower), but that was only because I had already been wearing one. The lawyer interviewing me had only khaki pants and a collared shirt, if I remember correctly; he certainly didn’t have a suit. I wouldn’t have been underdressed with a shirt and tie. That being said, I would go with the suit. You’ll look more professional, and it will give off the sense that you are respecting the environment of the law office.

I suggest a suit or blazer, pants, tie, since probably others there will be wearing similar attire.

you can never be over dressed. Its easy to take off a coat or roll up your sleaves but you can be under dressed…

Shirt and tie should be fine. But I agree with FloridaKidd that it’s easier to dress-down a fancy outfit than to dress-up a casual one.

Thanks everyone! I ended up going with a charcoal suit (slightly more casual than black) + a white dress shirt + red tie. I think it was ultimately the right decision. The office building was, as expected, super-fancy. Businessmen were everywhere in suits of their own, so I definitely felt appropriately dressed (and the interview went great!)

Thanks for the update. Glad that the interview went well. Best of luck with admissions.
