Hey guys so I have a question about one of my extracurriculars. I’ve been the president of my school’s Sociology Club since August 2019(Junior Year). However starting from August 2020 our club lost our sponsor. Our school requires us to have a club sponsor to hold club meetings. We aren’t on the club list website but we are still a verified club. I’ve asked over 150 teachers these past 4 months to be our sponsor but due to the COVID situation all of them have said no. Since we could not hold meetings the other Sociology Club officers and I decided to transform our club into a student led sociology organization not affiliated with the school.
So the main thing I’m confused about is if I should update the admission offices of the colleges I applied to about this change. On my Common App extracurriculars section I put Sociology Club for 2 years. However, this year we are not affiliated with the school. Would it hurt my application if I told them about this change? Thanks.
If you tell the schools, I do not see this as a problem at all. The fact that you have the initiative to continue the club independent of the high school seems impressive to me.
I would be inclined to tell the schools you have applied to. I doubt that they will care however. The main thing is that I would not want them to check and discover that the club does not exist.
Does your guidance counselor know that you will be continuing the club independent of the high school? They would probably know whether you should tell universities that you have already applied to.
If it was accurate when you submitted your application, I wouldn’t bother with the effort of notifying them of what’ really a minor change.
If you do tell them, it won’t change anything, IMO.

That’s exactly what I’m worried about. Our club is verified by the school however it is not on the Club List Website because we do not have a sponsor. So our club does exist but we can’t hold meetings. Should I just include all these details and tell the admissions office?
This change doesn’t warrant an update email to the AOs, IMO

Why not speak with the GC?
Are you worried the colleges would contact the GC, who would blow your chances by revealing some technical detail? That the colleges would actually reject you without some discussion with the GC? He or she can be your ally. Can explain as you did here. It’s not a show stopper.
